ON help

Okay, other May mamas, and June and July mamas too, look away. I know this isn't normal and I am sure I'll pay for my good fortune later.

P and I go to bed between 9 and 10. We cosleep. I get up around 6:30, she sleeps alone and hard till 11. The past few nights, she has been peeing through her best bottoms with cotton/hemp. And she just lays there sleeping, happy as a clam, in a pool of pee.

Do I need to be looking for a better ON solution? Or do I need to be changing her during the night? She is 10.5 weeks. I do change her if she poops before I get up. But lately she hasn't been pooping until sometime after I get up, and she doesn't seem upset at all about it.

Re: ON help

  • If you are sure that the BB is getting saturated before the leak starts, then you could try more absorbency, or if this is just a phase and she is not bothered, maybe you could just put something under her to protect your bedding? Depends on how bothered you are by it.

You could try doubling up your BB inserts and see what happens. We have some of the large cotton/hemp doublers and they are slightly beefier than the regular ones, but try just sticking 2 regulars in there. Hopefully you get a decent enough fit that you don't have to worry about shifting.
  • Loading the player...
  • They are definitely soaked through. The small inserts in using are borrowed from a friend. There are some ginormous ones with snaps in both sides, so I'm guessing that's an ON doubler? With E I just used the regular doublers that are pretty thin. I wasn't sure if that giant thing would fit in there with a regular insert too. I'll try 2 regular inserts.
I know mh won't be excited about buying more diapers. E did fine in Freetimes ON till she was almost 2. We were spoiled.

  • I tried a BB stay dry overnight + cotton/hemp for ON once and it worked pretty well. It was just super bulky. I got 2 sbish OS and use them with a blueberry coverall and love it. I figure it will last us for quite a while.

  • Yes the ones with snaps on both sides are the ON doublers. But if the ones you have are too long for P, then you are right to just try two regulars. I don't see why you can't stick with the BB system if it looks like you don't need the side absorbency of a fitted.

I keep a BB stay dry + cotton/hemp ON in DS's room for the occasional MOTN change. In general he needs the side absorbency of a fitted, but if he wakes up and complains about his diaper, the BB is usually easy to get on him, and at that point his tank is usually pretty empty.
  • My son never slept that long.

But, he was peeing through prefolds with a hemp insert in about 6 hours.  In desperation I even tried disposables and those didn't even work.

I switched to a Little Tush TT at about 3 months, since nothing else was working or would be too bulky.

You may want to look into fitteds.

  • I know I am a complete cloth diaper newb, but my 8 week old sleeps about as long as your LO (well, 10pm-8am, usually) and I've been putting her in fitteds at night. I have three EarthLINGZ fitteds that I've been rotating. I also ordered a wool cover to put over it instead of using a PUL cover because she has been getting constant rashes since birth.
