Resume question

I've been a SAHM for 4.5 years now. In that time I've applied for a couple jobs and currently there's a job that I'm considering applying for. I've always wondered if I should explain why I've been out if the workforce? Do I address the issue in my cover letter or not say anything and just explain the situation if I happen to get an interview?

Re: Resume question

  • What kinds of jobs are you applying for?

If I were hiring and I noticed someone had a 5 year experience gap, I'd want to know why.

  • This particular job is for a position in the children's / adolescents mental health unit at the hospital.

  • I would put it in the cover letter and maybe briefly discuss it if you get an interview.

  • Please don't put it on your resume. I would briefly mention in the cover letter if you are worried about it, but don't apologize for it.

  • I should have clarified that I DEFINITELY was not going to list my time home as a "job" on the resume! I was just unsure if I should discuss it on the cover letter or ignore it completely until an interview.

Looks like the consensus is to briefly mention it on the cover letter so I'll update that! Thanks guys!
