Good day, ladies!
I am working on my registry list as well as a list of personal stuff that I might use post partum and I have been watching some vlogs on what to pack in a hospital bag and stuff that is necessary for the first 6 months. I came across multiple of them talking about nursing pads. Here's the things that I want to be clarified on:
1. I have read and heard good reviews about the bamboobies. I know that you can re wash them which will help out a lot with cost, has anyone used them? how do they attach to your bra? do you just stick it in there? how many did you end up buying? whats the care instructions on these? handwash?
2. When it comes to the disposable ones, which one has been best for you? I have seen multiple and conflicting reviews on brands that they are either too hard, and it gets itchy, or too rough like sand paper.
3. Did you bring a supply of the nursing pads in your hospital bag? or does the hospital provide these too?
I know its too early for me to ask these things, 13 weeks as of Friday. But I am just really excited and want to get ready with this
Thank you, ladies!
Re: Nursing pads
I never tried disposables. Some of the women who pumped at my work used Lansinoh brand.
The hospital don't provide any, but I also didn't need any then because it took me about 3 days to establish a milk supply. Also I probably wasn't wearing a bra for the first day because I was just in the hospital gown.
It will be interesting to hear what other people say! Now I need to go through my lingerie drawer and all the other places where I've stashed clothes and find my nursing pads!
Hated the disposables, love the reusable cotton pads. I got samples of disposables to try them out.
My hospital does not supply nursing pads, so I always bring my own. That being said, it usually takes a few days for your milk supply to come in enough to leak, so there's a good chance that you won't need them until you're home anyway. For the first few days, your breasts will simply produce very tiny amounts of colostrum, which is plenty for your newborn.
1. In regards to Bamboobies: They are very thin. They would not have held up to the amount of leaking that happens in the beginning. I also have a few pairs of fuzzibunz, and even then, I did not use reusables until about 6 months when my supply was established and I wasn't leaking all over the place. Also, unlike the disposables with the little sticky on the back, for some reason, they started out just fine, and after a couple months, they started sliding out of my bra, Like, I'd be walking and it would drop out of my shirt cuz it had worked itself up and over the top of my bra. SO WEIRD.
2. For disposables, I love Lansinoh, even though they are a bit more than the Gerber. They are contoured. AND they have a little sticky on the back so they don't slide out of your bra. super useful!
3. I did bring a handful of them to the hospital. With my first, I was totally unprepared and had no idea about any of that stuff. Second time around I had nursing bras and the pads and everything and it was a lot more comfortable.
I used the medela nursing pads. They were... OK I guess. I think I finally just got used to them.
Chuck a few in your hospital bag if it will make you feel more comfortable. But honestly, if you're like me, your milk won't come in fully until you get home anyway. Be prepared for stripper boobs!
1. I have read and heard good reviews about the bamboobies. I know that you can re wash them which will help out a lot with cost, has anyone used them? how do they attach to your bra? do you just stick it in there? how many did you end up buying? whats the care instructions on these? handwash? There's nothing sticky to affix them to your bra, you just but them in there. I only had 1 pair of bamboobies and 6 sets of the reuseables from Etsy. I threw them in the wash with my towels. FYI: If you use lanolin, do NOT throw your reuseble breast pads in the wash with your clothes. You will get grease stains like when you forget a chapstick in your jeans pocket.
2. When it comes to the disposable ones, which one has been best for you? I have seen multiple and conflicting reviews on brands that they are either too hard, and it gets itchy, or too rough like sand paper. I don't remember brands. Some of them were flat and folded in half in the box (showed wrinkles through my nursing bras) and some were molded and had a little indent where your nipple would go. I liked the round molded ones because they didn't look wrinkly.
3. Did you bring a supply of the nursing pads in your hospital bag? or does the hospital provide these too? I brought them, but it really wasn't that necessary in the hospital. You are not producing much milk until about day 3 that you would actually leak. If your nipples are sore though, they can be a little buffer to keep them from rubbing against your clothing and keep the lanolin from making grease stains on nursing tanks.
The bamboobies I had would often just fall out of the bra. Maybe my boobs aren't big enough for them but I also didn't like that they are a flat piece of fabric. Boobs are round and there was always a fold in them. If you did get them I think they have a PUL so they would not leak through your shirt unless you completely soaked it and it got on your bra after that.
If you're going to use a lanolin cream, use disposable pads. That crap will stain your expensive nursing bras and it doesn't wash out. I have experience there.
I never leaked much so I used some round fabric reusable ones, not sure of a brand, I got them new at a garage sale.
I used disposable nursing pads. My favorite are lansinoh. I bought them on a deal. (But 1 get one half off)
No, I didn't bring them to the hospital with me. I didn't need them right away. Once my milk came in on day 3 is when I needed them.

<p align="center"Make sure that you add that milk to other pumped milk that includes plenty of hindmilk. Feeding LO a bottle full of only foremilk (what leaks out) will likely give the baby gas and not fill him/her up.
