High-Risk Pregnancy

can polyhydramnios make it harder to feel your baby move?

I am 32 weeks pregnant. Last week at my doctors appointment I was told I have excess amniotic fluid. That's all that was said. Doctor didn't seem too worried. She said I will see you next week and I went on. I have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes about 4 weeks ago. Most of my numbers are ok but I was put on glyburide to control my fasting numbers. Well stupid me came home and googled what excess amniotic fluid was. Now I am scared to death. I already have a page long list of questions for my appointment on Friday. I have been kind of busy today but I just realized that I haven't felt my baby move today. I tried researching if excessive fluid can make it harder to feel the baby move. I know it can make it harder for the doctor to find a heartbeat with a Doppler. (we have encountered that several times) My doctor told me not to worry about kick counts. As long as I felt the baby move daily I was good. I am so worried that something is wrong now. It is going to be a long wait to Friday. Has anyone else ever had polyhydramnios  and had difficulty feeling their baby move? I don't know exactly what amount of fluid I have right now. I would like to think that since she didn't go into details that its not crazily out of range. I will find out Friday. Please let me know how your pregnancy went with excess amniotic fluid. I am convinced I am having this problem due to gestational diabetes. I go back to work next week (I work for a school) I now wonder how all that time on my feet is going to happen with this condition. Come on September! I keep telling my husband next time he gets to be the pregnant one!

  • Polyhyramnios is common with diabetes.  I know my docs are on the look out for it but they don't seem too worried if I do end up with it.  Aside from being told that it generally means more discomfort because it generally means a bigger belly to contend with it was mentioned to me as saltbox40 has said tha PTL and PROM are the major risks but even those aren't "major risks".

    Also @saltbox40 Love the siggy!

  • Thanks ladies!!
  • I have polyhydromnios as well. I don't have issues with feeling movement though. How did your appnt on Friday go; did they give you your AFI (Amniotic Fluid Index)? Mine was 25cm at 24 weeks, I'll go back next week for other issues and we'll check it again. I'm already extremely uncomfortable at times, and feel like I'm 40w at 25w. Hope you're feeling ok, and got good news at the appnt.
