High-Risk Pregnancy

Anyone else with Blood pressure that goes up when they sit up? good when laying down?

I read through a few old ones but had more questions for others suffering from high blood pressure.

I've had blood pressure issues in the past but my blood pressure was pressure was pretty much normal till about 32 weeks.

Now at 37 weeks I am on I guess what one would call bed rest. I am to lay as much as I can. Not easy with a toddler in the house but I am doing my best.

When I lay my bp is good anywhere from 120-135/ 70-88 which is fine for me. But as soon as I sit up is when the trouble begins then it runs 145-155/ 91-107. The highest it's been is about 155/107 I am taking medicine but it still goes up when I sit up.

I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this?

  • Thank you for responding,   I know quinncat but for me it's normal laying day and totally out of control sitting up without even standing up just sitting up in bed!

Like I can sit up and it will be 150/105 and lay down it goes back to 125/75 that's insanely different one is safe one isn't.

What did you do you? Did you just stay in bed?

  • It happened with my first. I just layed around as much as possible. Luckily my water broke at 37 weeks, so only had four weeks of bedrest. DS was born healthy, thank goodness.

I was on BR with DD but for a different reason. DS continued going to daycare, and on weekends (DH works on weekends as a police officer) my friends would come and take him for play dates to help me. My mom helped a ton too!

My first I also had very high blood pressure and was induced at 37 weeks when laying down no longer helped. This time it went high much later so I'm hoping to make it a couple of more weeks. I would also love not to be induced. After being induced it took 24 hours before I actually gave birth and I would love to avoid that nightmare.

So as far as you laying around were you worried every time you stood up? I am just wondering how dangerous it is each time I stand up to eat or give my toddler something etc. My husband is home on the weekends but for some reason I find during the week easier not sure why. Maybe it's that I have outside help? no idea. He is home in the evenings and helps me to bathe feed and put him to sleep. Now if only I could learn to put myself to sleep  too :)

PS love your e-card siggy... LOL natural to have pain relief AMEN sister!

I was on medication and saw a dr that specialized on pregnancy hypertension. I was never put on bed rest. Have they checked for protein in your urine?
I do have a specialist but she was out of town this week.

I went to the the doctor this week and the dip stick showed a small amount of urine. But when the sample was sent to the lab it came back negative for protein. My platelets were low three weeks ago but now it's back up to a little bit below normal but not terribly low. The doctor says it isn't Pre E. Thank G-d!

So you didn't do any bed rest? How high was it when you were sitting up? Because when I'm up it goes pretty high.. usually about 145/95 but occasionally as high as 150/105
