Cloth Diapering

31 weeks and have no clothe diapers yet--freaking out

Hey all,

As you know from the title of my post, I am a little late to creating a stash. As much as I know the benefits of clothe diapering (all mu siblings and I were) I have no idea how to begin creating a stash for my LO. I hear such conflicting information on how many diapers I need, how many wraps and the differences in brands I am lost. I don't know where to begin. Help!

  • Cloth! ugh I meant cloth

  • Prefolds I think. I know I need a stack of them and a bunch of covers

  • Gmd are really popular but I think imagine are pretty close to as good. For covers I love blueberry and best bottoms.

The thing is, there are lots of great diapers these days. You're going to get a different answer from every single person on this board. As long as you stick to name brands you purchase from a real cd store, you will find some you love and some you don't like as much. Stay away from things like zulily.

You might consider a diaper trial.

  • I would go with either GMD or nickis or imagine for prefolds. GMD are more expensive, but have a crazy good resale value, so if you aren't having more kids are a good investment.

My favorite covers are the assunta covers, but I like thirsties too for the similar two size system.

You need 36 prefolds for nb, 24 for OS. I would have at least 8 covers for nb, 6 for OS. You could probably get by with fewer covers if you had too, but I like to have more than I need. I have more like 10-12 in each size.

  • Everyone here has given you good advice so far.....I'll just add don't panic over not having your stash started yet. I ordered my first cloth diapers the day after ds came home from the hospital the first time.....they were waiting for me when he was discharged the second time (nb jaundice and down syndrome related feeding issues they brushed aside initially put ds back in hospital at 4 days old). Purchasing before and purchasing after birth both have advantages. Also, I didn't try buying my nb stash in one order. I bought about enough for .5-1 day and then decided I liked what I had and added additional dipes so that I could cd him longer....and eventually worked up to where I have enough changes in my OS stash for EOD laundry and cd during laundry time.
