Benning

This was mentioned as a first name for a boy by a friend if mine. I can't decide how I feel about it. Is it too weird or kind of cute?

Re: Benning

  • I'm not crazy about it, I prefer Bennett. That being said if she chooses that name once you associate that name with her child you will probably think it's adorable and fits them perfectly : )

I think that's why I was kind of okay with it because it reminded me of Bennett. Then DH chimed in and said "you could call him Ben or Benny for short. " That made it even better in my mind but I still think it's a bit too unique.

This. It is a HUGE Army base.

Eta: I obviously like Bennett though, it's DS's name.

  • Benning falls on the "weird" side for me. Benjamin, Bennett, Benedict...all better choices imo.

  • I thought of fort benning as well. It's not the worst thing I've ever heard but I'm not in love with it either. The fact that you could call them Ben or Benny makes it better
  • Strongly dislike. I do like Bennett or Benjamin though!
  • I think this is awful. I much prefer Benjamin and Bennett.

    Me too.
Me three. I don't like random surnames as FNs.

  • Definitely Fort Benning. Around here that would be like naming your child Lejeune.
  • If you like Ben or Benny as a nickname, I much prefer Benjamin or Benedict.

  • It's all right if it's a family name.  Otherwise another random surname as FN, and one with which most people will have other associations.

    Agreed.
Plus I just find the "ing" ending in a person's name weird.

  • Too weird. It's like the kid's name is a verb. "Oh you know, just Benning around over here."

  • I'm an Army Brat so all I think is Fort Benning as well.
I could only get behind it if it was a family name. I do think it's kinda cute and I prefer it to Bennett.
    I just love Benjamin!
