prometrium question

This is my first cycle on prometrium. I take100mg three times daily by mouth for luteal phase deficiency.
It is prescribed as start 3 days after your LH surge- continue through 1 week past projected menses. If negative HPT- stop the med.
I am cycle day 28, negative preg test. After intercourse, noted some red spotting.
Same thing today, and now even when wiping after using the bathroom.
I have been taking the prometrium at the same time every day and am not sure why I am already spotting? I still have a whole week worth to take. The whole point in taking progesterone is to keep the period away. Anyone else have this problem?

I'm sorry you're having a confusing time! I have not had that problem, but I've taken prometrium for different reasons. When do you think you O'd? You can have spotting at various times in your cycle. I have read of some people starting their periods before they finish taking a prometrium or Provera course. Has it stayed pretty light? Sorry this is stressful for you.

I generally always O on day #16...but my chest was sore day #13 and I got my pos OPK on day #14 this cycle.
Yes...its light. Not bright red or anything. Just confusing.
Ive been researching online for similar situations- and some women did have spotting before finishing the prometrium. Just meant they weren't pregnant. I will continue to take it until 1 week past projected menses.

You're welcome! Sorry I'm not much help! I did have some spotting this past week (before ovulation) and it was very confusing since it was new for me. Everything about the TTC process can be overwhelming sometimes! I would keep taking it too.

You could've O'd on cd 16 or maybe 15 if you got a positive opk on cd 14. Sorry about the bfn though too.

I had a similar situation. I was prescribed 800mg progesterone suppositories starting the day I had my IUI. Usually I get my period between 10-12 days after ovulation and I started to stop very lightly on 13DPO and did not get my actual period until 3 days after I stopped. I was frustrated because, like you, I thought the progesterone would prevent all spotting during the LP, but it didn't.

I always spotted on any progesterone support that I was given. I used prometrium for my pregnancies and endometrim suppositories on medicated cycles. From what I can tell a lot of women will spot and some even start their period while on it. I don't know why. I'm sorry about you BFN.

Thanks ladies. One positive way to look at it...if you start a period while on the prometrium, then you can stop the med- and start the cycle over sooner. Less waiting. I feel like all we do is wait, wait, wait.

It sounds very strange to me that your doctor has you wait an extra week every cycle instead of just getting a beta blood pregnancy test to tell you if you can stop or not. Perhaps you have breakthrough spotting because your period is overdue? 

If you like, you might want to ask your doctor about using a blood test at 14 or 15DPO instead of waiting each cycle?
