So .. Colin has always spit up a lot. Like I know babies spit up, but he's had whole bottles worth of milk roll out of his mouth at once (and then I sit at my pump and cry at the waste, since I EP and have to supplement a bit). So we've been trying a few things to fix this before we see our doctor about all of this, since he is gaining weight, albeit slowly.
We've gone to a slower flow nipple and are burping him a bit differently, keeping him vertical after meals, etc. The other night my husband commented that his cloth diaper seemed really tight. It didn't seem too tight to me, I mean, it has to hold everything in, but as an experiment Colin spent the day in disposables since even though they are tight, they aren't as bulky at the waist. Well, low and behold he barely spit up at all today, and he also ate like 4 more ounces than he normally does - so I was kind of expecting something big to come out of him after his second full bottle in 2 hours.
So now I don't really know what to do. It's nice to not have him spitting so much up, but we also had to diaper blow-outs today - which never happen in cloth. I'm thinking if we stick to prefolds and flats with aplix covers the covers can be a bit looser at the waist to help a bit. I don't know, anyone have suggestions/dealt with this before?
Re: Tight cloth diapers causing excessive spit-up
((Hugs)) on the reflux issues. D had it pretty bad. I would give it another day or two in sposies before you blame it on the CDs though. It could have just been a random good day.
It sounds like you've tried all the usual suggestions to help with it. I assume you're supplementing with formula. Have you tried switching that yet? I think they make types specifically for reflux babies now. Also I know it seems like he's spitting out the whole bottle, but he probably isn't really. 1/2 ounce looks like a TON of milk when it's all over you or baby or the floor. Try dumping that amount of water on your counter.
