Cloth Diapering

NOOOOOOO!! I'm not ready

for my pp period :(( No wonder I felt sick this week.  Crap-I didn't have my cloth pads made yet, so I'm frantically pulling all my fabrics together and I'm going to cut fabric while I'm at work for 2.5 hours today…and sew with gusto tonight.

Ugh…the 2 year vacation is over

  • @stoneycakes …what does your pattern look like for your pads? Does it include the wings to add the snap?  or do you sew the wings onto the main part?

I think I found a pattern and tutorial I REALLY like. It doesn't have a PUL layer, but I can modify it I think

I took a disposable pad I like and basically traced around that, adding in a seam allowance.  I also extended the wings so they overlap a bit to allow for the snap closure.  I take that shape and cut a layer of PUL and a layer of cotton jersey and turn and top stitch them together.

I even cheat and sew them together all the way around and then cut a small hole in the middle of the jersey to turn it right side out. I trim the seam allowance down with scissors before I turn it right side out and top stitch. Then I sew three oval shaped layers of jersey onto my pad base for the soaker.  The soaker covers the hole and the raw edges turn up in the wash to make a kind of gusset. Add the snap and you're good to go.

It seems pretty similar to yours...this one has more layers

  • @Mandmeesh‌, I just got mine, too! It sucks, but I'm glad to know that the machine is working again. It was pretty amazing not having it for two years! I hope that yours isn't too painful. >:D<

  • Yeah, Meesh.  Same idea.  I use a straight stitch about a 1/4" from the edge just because I think it looks cleaner than a zig zag.  I get about a medium absorbency with the 4 layers of jersey. I made a couple that have snaps at either end of the soaker so I can snap on another three layers for overnight if I need it.
  • Sorry to hear that Meesh!  I am always amazed how long some women last.  I EBF.  With DD#3 I got my cycle 2 mo. pp.  And with DD#2 I didn't even get my pp period- I got pregnant at 3.5 mo. pp.

Hopefully you whip through those cloth pads b/c they are soo nice to have.  Esp. for the first couple pp periods.
