  • hopefully things are getting better with your visits!
  • I got one each trimester with my first son, but I wont get a third trimester one this time around since they didn't find anything abnormal this time around. kinda bummed I wont get ot see LO again and an inconclusive gender determination wasn't reason enough for another one unfortunately, so I guess we are team green until delivery hehe. :) Glad things are going well for you though.

  • I have to get one weekly due to my gestational diabetes. I love seeing my little guy but it a huge taker of time since I am saving my pto. So now I get to work late and skip lunch hours to make up my time.

It sucks that you don't get to your lo but it is a good sign that they don't want to monitor you so closely.

I've been consistently getting them every 3-4 weeks since 20w bc LO has an abnormal left leg/foot. Yes it's fun to see baby, but it's super frustrating to have to take the time off work to go... I think I only need one more though at 32 weeks for the orthopedic surgeon.

Yay for you for being super healthy and low risk! Don't worry :) you'll see LO soon!

My doc said they can usually only get the insurance to pay for two ultrasounds in a low-risk pregnancy. So they don't do one super early in his practice. My first was actually the a/s and then I got my second at 29 weeks, which is when they flipped on the 3D for us.

I am a nurse in an OB office. If you and your baby are healthy, we only do an ultrasound for your early risk assessment (screening for DS and T13/18) IF you even choose to have one, and then your LAST ultrasound is your fetal survey (anatomy scan) around 18-20 weeks. So, some people only have ONE ultrasound the entire pregnancy. If you or your baby have some sort of health concern, then we start "fetal surveillance" which usually consists of weekly ultrasounds, around 36 weeks - depending on the condition. Examples of these health concerns could be maternal hypertension (on medication) or your PAPP-A was a low % during your early risk assessment.

Each visit your doctor should be measuring your fundal hight to make sure the baby seems to be growing appropriately. At 36 weeks they should be checking the position of the baby, and at every visit there should be a fetal heart check. Should any of these be off, the OB will send you for an ultrasound.

So as PP have put it, having only a couple ultrasounds is a good thing!!! I'm dying to see my little boy too, but I'm just trying to be patient and wait to see him in person. Only a few months left!

  • My OB does 3 ultrasounds which are standard. 8 weeks, 20 weeks, and 30 weeks. They also recommend the NT scan at 13 weeks.

I am switching to a new OB closer to my new house and they do not do a 30 week ultrasound.

  • I will more than likely only have 1(my a/s scan @ 20 weeks) unless an issue arises later on in my pregnancy.

  • We had a dating ultrasound around 7-8 weeks and then our anatomy scan at 20.  It's likely I won't see LO again til we deliver!  Eek!

  • We had our first (and would have been only) ultrasound at 20 weeks. But when they found out we're having twins, now we need to do one every month. It's nice to see both little ones, and a great stress reliever for me to know that everything is ok with both of them, because they can't tell the growth of both babies individually with fundal height. It is a lot of time away from work, though, and scheduling someone to watch our two year old if we don't want to have to bring her is a lot of time, too.

Glad things are going well, and then next few weeks will fly by, and you'll get to see your little one in person!

  • I've had 4 ultrasounds already.... Scheduled for my 5th on Thursday. This one for a 3d/4d so hopefully I'll get some good face shots!!
  • With my first I only one ultrasound, but was having problems at the beginning of this one (everything is ok now) so I had one about every two weeks. Then they decided I was high risk due to my age and thyroid condition so they sent me to a specialist. I have had one every month from the specialist since about 12 weeks. I just got released from the specialist last time and now my OB is doing a 4D next week. I am excited though because if all that I have had we have not had any good pics of her face. I know it is hard not being able to see your LO but just thankful everything is ok.
  • My office only does 2 as well.  We had a every early one to get a correct EDD and then my last one was the AS and we won't have another one.... I would like some more pictures too :)

  • My old dr always did a growth scan around 35-37w. Not sure if they do that where I am now.
  • I've heard a lot of doctors do a 32 week growth scan but not mine. I had nt scan at 12 weeks and anatomy at 17 and 22 and my doctor says that's it. I'm actually pretty bummed about it. I tried to ask for one at my last apt and she said there is no reason your stomach Is right where it should be. I am counting my blessings and feeling so happy that there are no problems but man I would like to see LO again!!

  • I have had 4 or 5 ultrasounds because I'm at an elevated risk.  The OB told me that a normal pregnancy usually only has 2.  Be thankful that you are healthy and don't need more even though you are missing out on those extra pictures.
  • My OB does a growth us at 32 weeks, but this is not standard across practices.  My office has the us machine right there, so I don't have to go to a separate place, and it's just part of my regular visits when I go.  My OB even does all of them (no techs).  But generally for a low risk pregnancy I think most women just get the 12 week NT scan (if they opt for it) and the 20 week A/S.

  • As of right now the anatomy scan is my last ultrasound. If there are some concerns I could have an extra one, like if I notice decreased movement or there is something they discover at my appointment, but right now I'm hoping all will be quiet.

  • Just like the other ladies said every office is different.  I got the nt scan at 12 weeks, elective at 15 weeks and a/s at 19 weeks.  Last pregnancy I got one at 36, 37, 38, 39, and would have at 40 if I didn't go early.
Hoping I get the weeklies again this time around :)

  • In uncomplicated pregnancies, both my OB and the MW I've switched to order two ultrasounds: an early dating/confirmation ultrasound between 8 and 13 weeks and an anatomy scan between 18 and 20 weeks.

I have monthly ultrasounds due to low PAPP-A, because my first LO was IUGR, and because I have no thyroid (thyroidectomy as treatment for Graves' Disease). Yeah, it's cool to see him, but the ultrasound photos you get lose their value so so so much when you have a tiny baby to photograph! ;) You're not missing too much.

  • I had a dating ultrasound at 7 weeks, the NT scan at 12 weeks, and the anatomy scan around 19 weeks. I'll get another one in about 3.5 weeks, when I'm 33 weeks, to check size and position. I personally feel like that one is stupid, because the size is a guess at this point, and I feel like there's plenty of time to flip. But I'm doin' it because I want to see her again.

  • I would count your blessings as PP have said. I get one monthly due to GD. But in 2 weeks I have to go for another to measure LO's growth.

  • I have had 4, and have one scheduled for Aug 11th. My first one was for dating at 8weeks, then the NT scan at 12 weeks, then the anatomy scan at 22 weeks, but at the anatomy scan they couldn't see everything they needed to see cuz baby girl was all scrunched up so we had another at 27w/5days... Now we got the news that we won't be able to deliver where we originally planned because of possible complications that may or may not come with delivery, so we are meeting our new Dr. on 8/11 and they will do an ultrasound then. I love seeing the baby each time, but at least you know everything is good!!
