Daycare price increase

I know daycares generally increase tuition each year but I was just wondering what the average is. My increase for two kids age two and four is $37 a week combined. That seems high to me but maybe not? Percentage wise it is a little more then ten percent. When I started they said it normally increased $5.00 to $7.00 a week per child. The director that signed us up was a mess and I was not aware until we started and she was gone. Pretty much every single thing she told us has been wrong so I should not be shocked by this. Thanks

Re: Daycare price increase

  • 10% sounds high unless their rates were way below market. We typically see +3-4% per year.

  • We had a $10 per week per child increase this year; it was about a 5% increase. The director said it was the first increase in 4 or 5 years.
  • Ours was 5% and I think that was a little steep. I didn't get a 5% raise so daycare is taking a bigger bite out of my budget. 10%is outrageous.
  • Thanks. I think I may ask if it is typical we just switched in june because we moved but I do know their prices are raised annually and are on the higher side simular to Goddard for those who are familiar with their prices.

  • We don't want to switch again because they drive to our elementary school so if dd can't get into after care we have a plan. @JackieB15‌ I agree our raises average 3 percent plus our medical went way up this year due to ACA ugh.

  • At DS's center we had a 5% raise in price this year and the hours cut, so that was disappointing.

On the other hand, the changes they made in price and hours put them on par with the other good centers in our area  - our center was priced low, and it is not low quality care, and the hours were previously from 6:45am to 6:30pm (unheard of in our area) and changed to 7am to 6pm, which is the norm...although some centers (DD's center for example) charge an extra fee if you want to use care between 7am and 8am. Maybe they will do that next year.

  • Ours went up a little over 2% ($5/wk) and I was told it's the first time in years it went up at all.  The amount yours went up would really be stressful.  DH is already not happy about how much we're paying (we switched to this one from a cheaper one) and that would push him over the edge.
