March 2015 Moms

So I'm a little confused...

Forgive me in advance if this is a stupid question BUT according to TB at week 8 my baby is the size of a raspberry, measuring a little over a half an inch. Yesterday with my ultrasound, doc says they look for baby to be over 4cm at this phase. Mine was 4.6. If you convert that to inches that's 1.81". Now I'm totally confused... Is it some overgrown steroid SAMs club raspberry TB is referencing or are they different measurements like circumference etc... And like a proud mama already here's my little one!

Re: So I'm a little confused...

  • Hmm. I'm pretty confused. I had my check up this week at almost nine weeks, and mine was 2.5 cm, which I believe is about an inch and as predicted by the bump. You are sure your babe was over 4 cm?

  • Hmm the pic didn't post. Let's try again. The measurement is at the top, plus we had the whole convo about being over 4cm (I remember thinking "phew just made it at 4.6!")
  • I really am not sure but looking up how far along a 4.5 cm fetus should be, it's about 13 weeks . Maybe I'm missing something here ! But it sounds like you have a perfectly healthy bean regardless!

  • I haven't had an u/s but I'm thinking the 4.6/1.2/41hz is the ultrasound machine maybe the wand attached. Last I heard, babies didn't have cycles per second (hertz or hz)

  • @lalaroller08‌ that's really all that matters!!! I was so relieved to see the heartbeat after I had some spotting. I'm definitely looking into this on Wednesday at my confirmation appointment.
  • Did she mean millimeters, not centimeters? At my 6w6d u/s baby was measured in mm.
  • I'm wondering if maybe they meant the whole sack was 4.6 cm? I looked at the picture and the second number after that is 1.2 which would put you more in the range of 8 weeks. I had my 8 week ultrasound on Wednesday and the baby measured in at 1.66 cm which converts correctly to the raspberry size.

    Now this makes sense!

  • I don't think those numbers are the baby's measurements but something to do with maybe the viewing area. I just looked at my 7w5d ultrasound from yesterday and it says 10.1cm at that place on the top and my baby was def not 10.1cm. However big or small they are, super cute baby you have there! :)
