TTC After a Loss

low amh...really universe???

I don't know many details yet as I have just been emailing with the RE and they want to fully discuss things at my appt. on thursday, but my f-ing amh is at .23...I am just at a loss.  We got pregnant immediately 3 times (all losses) so I honestly didn't think we had any IF issues...just holding onto a pregnancy...so I am honestly floored at this bad news.

this go around we have been doing femara for 6 cycles with no luck so they decided to run the OAR tests and I expected it to be fine.  I just can't believe that things just keep getting worse....the RE said we could discuss IUI's and IVF on thursday...she said that she still was confident that I would get pregnant and carry a baby to term...I honestly don't know how she could be confident in that. and I am just shocked that we are on the doorstep of ivf now.

sorry for the pity party...I don't want to ruin DH's Friday at work so I have kept this competely to myself for the last few hours.  I just want to be at home under the covers and never come out.  thanks for letting me vent.

Re: low amh...really universe???

  • (((Hugs))). Finding out your AmH is low is very hard.  Please remember that all that number indicates is quantity - as my RE put it, the quantity is low so it is assumed that their is also a quality issue.  If that is the only low number on your OAR report it does not keep your from being an IVF candidate.

Was that the only "bad" number on your OAR? OAR is looking at the total picture which is a lot more than just your AmH. What was your OAR rating?

Also, has your vitamin D levels been checked? If your vitamin D levels are low, this could cause your AmH reading to be lower than what it actually is.

  • @buggirl72 ...thanks for the encouragement.  Here are my numbers: they don't want to discuss it in detail until my appt. but she just said my amh was low and my "total score was concerning".  I have no idea about my vitamin d levels...I can ask them about that on thursday...I've had a full rpl workup but not sure if that would include vit d.

OAR Antimullerian Hormone Value 0.23 ng/ml
OAR Egg Retreival Score Index Value 7 Calculated
    OAR Estradiol Value 68.0 pg/mL
OAR Follicle Stimulating Hormone Value 7.09 mIU/ml
    OAR Inhibin B Value 169.7 pg/ml

My OAR index value was 1 (I didn't get a copy because, as my RE said, "this is depressing") and I think my RE said they want the score to be at least 4 to even consider IVF.

Looking really quick at normal ranges from my labs, I think your FSH and estradiol is in normal range and your LH is low per the chart I saw but I'm not sure if that chart is taking into account the day of your cycle - or what low LH might mean.  I don't know anything about inhibin B so I'm not even going to venture a guess.

The big thing is, don't turn to google. Wait to talk with your doctor to see what their thoughts are on the results and what they recommend.

Also, we have a multitude of grads who had low AmH and many of them are where they are now after a natural cycle. Low AmH is not the end of the road for you.

Try to enjoy your weekend with your husband. ((((Hugs)))).

  • I'm sorry about this news. There are plenty of low AMH ladies on PGAL, though, and I'm sure they'd be willing to share if you are comfortable posting something there.

I'm with @HoldingOutHope‌ -- I'm terrified to get my AMH tested. My RE told me not to get it tested for another couple of months due to retained product messing up my hormones, and I have to admit I'm more than happy to put it off.

  • I'm sorry you're having such a bad day, I am also deeply sorry for your losses. I have low AMH and if I could go back in time I would have refused the test. Low AMH doesn't mean much, you still have eggs and your FSH is below 10 so your quality is probably good. The best indicator for fertility is your age. Have you been put on progesterone during any of your pregnancies?
  • @dannyboybest no, I take it now after ovulation but I didn't before.

    This!

My AMH is .2 and it's the only thing "wrong" with me. Please feel free to PM me and I can go into more details what my RE said about everything. Like bug said AMH is supposed to judge quantity but they also assume quality is low too. There are many many success stories of women with low AMH having babies so don't give up hope!

We are moving to IVF with PGS testing to see if I am still producing viable eggs. I pray I'll be a success story myself!!

I hope you don't mind me jumping in.  Getting the low AMH diagnosis completely screwed with me.  I don't know how old you are (I'm 28) but I did not expect it in the least.  I've also had 3 previous losses and got pregnant relatively quickly so it just seemed so off base.  I'm here if you ever want to talk but know that it isn't an end all be all and I would wait to talk to your doctor before worrying too much.  So many (((hugs)))

  • * warning bfp mentioned *Hi, sorry about your news. Don't give up hope though, I have low amh and high fsh and was told donor only. After 6 months of seeing a Chinese fertility specialist for acupuncture, herbs, diet restriction especially dairy as well as taking royal jelly, coQ10, wheat grass shots and homeopathic dhea I've achieved a bfp after 2 years of trying with 2 losses previously to that. So keep your head up, your fsh looks great so the egg quality shouldn't be a problem you just need something to give you a little push

  • It's not really that hard, though. You said you're pregnant, right? Like currently pregnant. So you're coming here, warning us of your pregnancy, and then telling us (some who have done everything you did AND WAY MORE & not gotten pregnant) how to get pregnant. Nope. Doesn't fly.
