Pregnant with new job--when to tell

I'm sure this question has been asked of you ladies before, so sorry for repeating it, but would really appreciate any guidance.  I am newly pregnant with my 2nd (BFP last week).  I have also just accepted a new part time job as a museum educator (I was formerly a teacher but the part time hours are ideal for me with young children).
Anyhow, I want to wait as long as possible to tell my new employer.  We don't plan to tell friends and family until after NT scan if we can avoid it.  Also, I want to establish myself in my new workplace before announcing.  Based on school year, I will be due in the spring (April 2015) so I think I would get to work most of the school year which ends hear in early June.  Do you think it may be possible to wait until December to break the news?  I would probably be about 5-6 months pregnant by then.  Also, do you think that is adequate time for them to prepare for my leave?

Re: Pregnant with new job--when to tell

  • I got pregnant after being on a new job for one month, I told my employer when I was about 13 weeks pregnant though I could have waited longer I'm sure, 5-6 months sounds like it will be fine. I was nervous since I was new but my boss loves babies so she was very excited for me!

If you can hide it without it interferring with your workload than I say waiting until 5 months is fine.  Otherwise if m/s or other pregnancy symptoms develop you may want your coworkers support.
I was up for a promotion shortly after I found out I was pregnant.  I didn't say anything because I didn't want my pregnancy/mat. leave affecting their decision.  It was my first baby so I was able to hide it until around 21 weeks when they started putting together all the details.  Different clothes, weight gain, unexplained "appts."
