My dh will have off from work for 2 weeks for the birth of dd. I also have a toddler ds who I want to make sure has a good end to his summer since I felt like crap most if it and we stayed indoors. Other than doc appts, how soon did you take your Newborn out in public and where did you go?

About two weeks. I would have gone sooner but it was the dead of winter and we had several snow storms so I didn't want him in a car with all the snow/ice.

Um DD we went to eat on the way home from the nicu. DS we went to target on the way home, DS we went to the children's museum the day after we came home. I am not one to sit around.
Right after we left the hospital we went to eat at the restaurant DH worked at, it was an off time so we knew not many/anyone besides employee would be there she was 3 days old. We also went to Target when she was 6 days old. We were out and about from the get go.
I hate staying home. We were in the hospital for 4 days after he was born. The day after we got out, we went to eat and to target, and continued to at least 3 times a week.
Eta: he was born in the dead of winter and has only been sick 3 times in his 19 months.

Well we actually took dd2 to Jimmy Johns on the way home from the hospital and DD1 went to a coffee shop with me following her bilirubin test the day after she came home (3 days old). I'm not typically too phobic of the world though.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!
I took him out at about 3 days old. We went to Target and the mall, mostly.
This one will be joining us for therapy, preschool, and our normal fall activities. I don't expect to keep her inside for more than a couple days, if that.
She was born early Saturday morning, we went home Sunday evening, and we had to go to the pediatrician on Monday if that counts. I think officially to a store 2 weeks later, but we were comfy at home and didn't need anything. But, if I had a toddler at the time and the weather was ok, I would pop the newborn in a ktan and head to the park asap.
Oh just saw not including Dr appts.
Also sooo many people have said target! I wonder if they could spin that into a marketing campaign somehow. But I guess they already have a complete monopoly on moms.
6 days old we went to Carter's for NB clothes. I believed the whole your baby will be too big for newborn clothes so I didn't buy any. DD wore them for 8weeks.

Target when she was 5 days old. We bought a rock and play because she wouldn't sleep more than 45 min at a time without being held. That night she slept three hours straight and it was glorious.
DS was 2 weeks old but he was a preemie and only spent 4 days in the hospital. I was nervous to take him out. With DD we stopped to eat dinner on our way home from the hospital.
I believe that we stopped at Target on the way home with DD; she was too small for everything we bought. DS was probably out a day or two after the hospital. I know we took him to a play place for DD's birthday which wasn't quite two weeks later.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who answered 'less than one week', my MIL really made me feel bad about that with my first...and she was with us on the outing!
We were in the middle of a refi when DS was born. On the day we came home from the hospital, we had to go to the bank and sign papers. DS was three days old.
DS was 4 days old and we took him to the hospital. My cousin's wife had their DS 3 days after our DS. We each had a chance to tell our grandmother that the babies were healthy, and then she got very ill, very fast. We brought the babies to the hospital to meet her. She never really regained consciousness after meeting them. We are convinced she hung on long enough to make sure they made it safely into the world.
DD went to Kohls on the way home from the hospital. It was senior citizens day or something, but several seniors were not too happy to see a newborn out and about so young. Then we went to Noodles and Company.
We went to the store for some essential baby items I had forgotten when DD was maybe half a week old. We too her Texas Roadhouse at 6 days old. She rarely cried and was so easy. I didn't want to stay stuck at home so out we went. She's been sick only a handful of times.

I took weeks. I'm one of those people who was absolutely fine hibernating with a newborn, and we still had our nanny (I was going back to work) part time to help with the other kids. It was also the middle of winter in Wisconsin and with two of the kids we had Christmas when they were just a couple weeks old. Does that count? We went out, to family parties, but not to stores. I skipped church, too, b/c they were so tiny.
Julia went to a street fair the day she came home. We just walked around a bit and kept her covered, but it was nearby and looked fun.
Emma was on the playground the day she came home, so two days old.
Drew was home a bit, back in the hospital for jaundice, then at 7 days old visited Julia's kindergarten classroom (it was the single party all year that parents were invited in for).
We went outside for walks a few days after birth but I didn't bring my son into any establishment until two months (was not easy) but I listened to the doctor.

Alex - I went back to the hospital after I tore a stitch a couple days after I came home. Tay - the mall the day after we got home because we needed Christmas gifts for her. Dyl - I took all 3 kids to an indoor play place w/ friends.
No idea where/when we took DS1 out, but I'm sure it was within the first week. And we may have gone somewhere before this, but we took DS2 house-hunting at 8 days old. In the snow. With a blizzard on the way. I think the realtor questioned our judgment and parenting skills. We weren't even seriously looking to buy anything. We just really wanted to get out of the house.
DD1: we went out the on her third day. We needed a few things and went to a supermarket. DD2: had an appointment with her doctor at six days old. DD3 was the same.
I'd like to point out that my kids didn't go out until they were older not because I was afraid to take them in public, but because I didn't want to get dressed.
I'm also ashamed of myself for not knowing where Mallory went and when. She's two months old. I should know this. It's not like it was years ago.
That's the thing! I just wanted to sit on the couch with my boobs out and my diaper pad on! I wasn't worried about the baby. I'm impressed at you ladies being up and about.
Both girls went to target before 1 week old, DD2 was on the way home from the hospital. DD2 also went to the zoo at 9 days old. I felt better at 2 days pp with #2 than I did at 2 months pp with #1. Also, my toddler is much nicer to be around when out and about.

I have no clear memory of when I was out with #2 and #3. Probably within a week to run errands. My first I did not go out until she was 3 weeks. My stitches had opened up and I could not stand or sit for long periods of time. I was in too much pain. I blame her giant head.
With both kids, I took the whole "you should really rest and sleep when the baby sleeps and let others take care of everything for the first 2 weeks" seriously and didn't leave home except to take a walk around the neighborhood a few times.
I was in bad shape, physically, with the tearing and the bleeding and the PP cramps while nursing - I was a hot mess and had zero desire to put on pants and go out in public.
By week 3, we were up and around and back to normal life!
I got dd out & about as soon as I felt really good from my csection so a little over a week. I think I just went grocery shopping then to play dates with ds's friends. 3 weeks old we went to the zoo
Stopped at the mall on our way home for nursing/sleep bras. I had been told all the horrors of nursing but found already I loved it so I needed some gear. We live about 45 minutes away but it's on the way from the hospital so it made sense to do while DH was with us.

Absolutely in love with our 'big' family!
I'm also a proud Auntie to a crazy little girl, her brand new baby sister, a little man on his way in the next month, and a sweet little mister we will miss forever!!!
DH went right back to work a couple days after Z was born and since I had a c-section I couldn't drive right away so we probably didn't drive anywhere for a week? But I took her on walks around our court and neighborhood and once I could drive again I'm sure we went to Target and/or Publix.
