I asked this same question on the breastfeeding board, but I am curious to know if anyone has gotten a tattoo while BF and if there are any risks involved?

When I looked it up online a while back it said that the risks are the same as if you were getting one while not breastfeeding.  So as long as you go to a reputable place, most people seem to think it is okay because the ink doesn't get into your bloodstream.  That's what I read anyways.

I found the same as pp. I plan to get one on my ribs after my skin has tightened back up which should be before I stop bfing!

I haven't done any research but want one. I had planned to wait but maybe I'll ask the pedi about it.

I had a piece done a month after DS was born and the place i went to wont do it on women who are bf. Not sure if its just that location or if its common practice. Normally it would be stated in the consent form.

My tattoo artist told me he will not do a tattoo on anyone BF due to the fact of the stuff they use in the ink. He said if you want it in your body that's fine but he won't be held responsible for it going to an innocent baby. I adore him cause he tells it like it is but its basically what everyone else has said. You just run the risk of passing it to the LO.

I've already got the itch for another tattoo.
