Nightmares

What can you tell me about nightmares? This is what I am assuming C is experiencing. Three times over the past month he starts crying out in his sleep. It seems to happen about two hours after going to bed. It is a loud shrilling cry as if something is hurting or scaring him. It's loud enough that it wakes up D. C is pretty unconsolable during this time, usually 20 minutes before he starts to calm down.

Could it be his tummy? My DS1 did this a lot and once we gave him gripe water he was better. We started giving it to him nightly and he didnt wake up screaming and unconsolable anymore. Idk just a thought.

H does something like with nightmares and night terrors. When he has night terrors, he's still asleep and has no clue that we've gone into his room. During those, it's best to leave him alone, otherwise they last a lot longer.

Nightmares he cries out like you described and is awake and aware. I usually pick him up and rock him for a minute until he calms down which doesn't normally take more than 3-5 minutes.

I would say night terrors. That takes them a while to wake up from and when ds had them it was about the exact same time each night. Once woken up they remember nothing. When it happened to us multiple nights in a week we would try and wake him up before hand.

E went through a phase where she'd do that. It wasn't every night, but it was more frequent than not. She would scream out and cry. The first time, DH and I ran in and tried to console her. It seemed like she was awake - she was moving around and babbling (though incoherently), but when it happened again, we realized she was still asleep.

DS1 had night terrors. Fortunately he outgrew them at 4-5. But they sucked at the time because there is nothing you can do but sit there and make sure they don't hurt themselves. You can't wake them, that makes it much worse. In the morning they don't remember any of it. 

Nightmares, each of the boys will cry out, but then when we go in to comfort them they can fall right back asleep. 

I hope this is a short lived phase for your LO!
