Talking?

Sorry if this was brought up previously, but is anyone else's kid not saying much?

I can tell that HC understands a lot of what we say, but he just isn't very vocal. Right now his favorite words are "Daddy" and "uh oh." He'll say "Mama" occasionally and repeats a lot of what my husband says, like "wow" or "yep."

He does use a few signs to let us know when he's hungry or wants more food, but he just doesn't seem like he's interested in talking.

Anyone else in the same boat? I only hear from the "my kid can speak 500 words in seven different languages" moms, which aren't helpful. Haha.

Same boat...mama, dada, cat...occasionally an imitation word that is about it.  He shows he understands a lot more though.
I am a little concerned but not full on worried  yet.   He is thirteen and a half months and I read he should have five words by fifteen months so he has some time to pick up a couple more.
Some people have told me language takes off for a lot of kids around 18 months.

Haha, yeah I get called "Daddy" a lot. My husband is home (laid off) right now, so he's with him a lot. He's the preferred parent as of late.

He does babble, so I guess that's good! I'm sure I'm stressing for no reason.

We have a lot of ba and da for b and d words, like ball, bird, dog, bye, etc. he says dada for DH but not much else.

There was this one time when we got back from our beach trip, and HC saw Sadie for the first time all weekend, and my hubs and I both heard him say "Adie!" But it was a one-time, magical thing that we cannot get him to do again. Haha! I think we may have been so tired/exhausted we hallucinated the whole thing.

I wrote a few weeks back about this, and not much has changed. At his 13 month appt (we were a little late for 12 month, oops) the pedi said not to worry. He doesn't say mama and still doesn't. Everything is dada, so I don't think it means anything to him.
The only thing he says daily is "die die" when he says goodbye. I keep joking that he's never going to speak but just run around telling people to die. He'll also usually say "nana" when he sees a banana.

He does understand much of what we say. He'll get his shoes if we ask him. He runs to his highchair if we say snack, lunch, etc.

I'm really worried about him not talking, but part of that stems from having several nonverbal students in my classes over the year.

Yup, same! He consistently says mama, dada, and uh oh. He does know a lot more than he can say. He can point out banana, outside, upstairs, and blankie.

There were times where I thought he was saying that or what and no. But I haven't heard them in awhile. And more recently it sounded like he said all done, but only a couple times.

He goes to dr's tomorrow so I'll be asking about it.

Same here. He understands a lot but isn't vocal. He doesn't even say mama or dada. He says dadadada but it's babble it's not meant as "daddy". He mimics sounds a lot but no words if that makes sense. For example, we always say "1, 2, 3" in a drawn out way when going up stairs. He repeats the sound of the numbers but doesn't actually attempt to say the numbers. His ped. said by 15 months he should have 3 words. I don't see that happening in the next few weeks.

Yeah, it is kind of funny that mama seems to mean "I'm sad/don't like this/come pick me up/help me" and dada means "this is fun." We're already living the gender stereotypes!

OMG DD does the same thing when it comes to Mama and Dada. She runs to Dada and exclaims his name when he gets home and she runs around saying Dada all cutesy but for me it's only Mama when there is a problem and she's usually whining when she says it. I have yet to hear a cute Mama

Our pedi said 1-3 words by 15 months.

LO says Dada, light, and oof oof (for dog - so idk if that counts!)

I always tell him what we're doing and repeat certain words a lot. For ex if he's eating a banana I say banana - a lot. Lol

LO understands many more words than he can say. If we ask him to get his ball, phone, train, etc he will.

Sounds like your LO is fine. It's awesome that he signs too

My LO doesn't say much. His only real word was "tickle tickle" last week when he was copying his sister. He doesn't say mama or dada with meaning. He babbles but nothing is a real word or meaningful. He understands lots though, and can follow directions. I think he's just a quiet guy. I guess we will see what the pedi says at his 15 month appt.

We hear lots of babbling. He has mama and dada down pat. He says dog. But other than that we don't have much else. We may have heard a uh oh the other day but not again. He points alot to things he wants and understands things like "where is mommy's nose?" and "where are your balloons?" But just isn't saying much word wise.

She can say momma and dadda sometimes. Signs more for all food and drink. Pedi didnt seem concerned at her 12 month appt and i didnt know to ask. Opps.

M isn't much of a talker either.  She babbles and talks to herself a lot but don't use real words very often.  She also uses dada for multiple things.  I hear of a lot of babies saying way more and I get concerned too.  I am glad we're not alone.
