Stash Advice please

After catching some sales/online coupons/seconds sales, I think I'm pretty close to having a completed stash. Thoughts and suggestions, please!

Newborn
12 Kawaii Pure and Naturals
6 Osocozy Sz. 1 prefolds (gifted by a friend)
3 Thirsties Duo Sz. 1 Covers
3 Blueberry Mini Coveralls
**thinking about adding: 6 Orange GMD Workhorse, 12 Orange GMD Prefolds and 6 Yellow GMD Workhorse, 12 Yellow GMD Prefolds OR skipping orange and just getting yellow. I was a 9 lb., 14 ounce baby and DH was early and nearly 8 pounds, so thinking a bigger baby is expected.

One Size
10 BumGenius Elemental
1 Moraki AIO
3 Thirsties Duo Sz. 2 Cover
**will add red GMD workhorses and prefolds once I see how baby is growing

Other
3 Snappis
36 Cloth Wipes
Md. PlanetWise Wet Bag
Lg. PlanetWise Wet Bag

Re: Stash Advice please

  • I would definitely add more WH/prefolds/whatever you want to your NB stash. Maybe someone else can weigh in on the size tho. I just have average sized babies, and we're on the smaller side to begin with.

How about waterproof pads?  For on the go diaper changing or around the house.  I got a set from Amazon, it comes with a bigger one for bedding (bassinet, crib, etc) and two smaller ones for diaper changing.  Love their prints!  I probably will get one more set and use one on the swing since it'd be difficult to clean if there's any diaper leaks.

  • My second daughter was 8 lb 14oz and fit in the newborn workhorses for about a month. I was easily able to sell them and upgrade to the smalls. It probably wouldn't hurt to have some of each until you figure out which fits best. But I would bet the newborn are going to fit better at first.

I agree with rugbymama that you will likely use the NB workhorses even if you have a big baby. If you want to save a bit, there are actually some mamas on here who used NB (snapless) for a 1-2 months and then skipped to snapless mediums.

Prefolds will be a bit more difficult. I think NB tend to be outgrown size wise before the workhorses. So it might make sense financially to start with smalls. They will probably be a bit bulky the first couple weeks though. So I guess it depends on whether the bulk will bother you or not.

ETA: Are you planning to use the large wetbag for storage of dirties at home? If so you'll want two...one to use while the other is washing. You might also want two or even three mediums if baby will go to DC or you'll spend a lot of time away from home.

Thanks so much, ladies! I will definitely get both the orange and yellow workhorses and prefolds from GMD.

And yes, @CLLDLL I will be using the large for at home, so adding another is a great idea too.

  • Agreed with the pail liner. I fill mine easily and it makes things easy to tote to the machine and outside to line dry
  • I would get the nb prefolds and workhorses and consider skipping yellow. The P&Ns don't always fit right away, so you wouldn't want to end up with almost nothing that fit immediately.

  • I would say other than wanting two large pail liners for everyday. You will still want more than one wet bag, even if you don't do daycare. I have 3. I always consider my wet gas dirty after one day then they go in the pail. Washing EOD, if you go out on wash day you may find they are both dirty and in the wash.

I have a huge tub of coconut oil that I use for cooking and can use. I also have Earth Mama Angel Baby bottom balm on my amazon registry (planning on using the 15% off completion coupon with anything that's left on there). I have a few of their other products and like them so I figured I'd try it.
