I saw in the post below about a thyroid issue.
I have postpartum thyroiditis, which is and probably always will be controlled with meds.
I'm nervous about what this means for baby #2.
Can you tell me about your thyroid experience, if you don't mind sharing?
Re: ***blueskybride***
Hi there!
Not at all ... I think I was probably having thyroid issues before my son was conceived. I had one miscarriage before he was born and one this past July and they never thought to check bc they weren't considered part of "recurrent pregnancy loss". But once I started working with a terrific endocrinologist, she wanted everything checked. They found out I have Hashimoto's Disease, which is actually an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks the thyroid, causing it to overproduce, then underproduce (you have probably heard of this).
I also carry the PAI-1 gene, which was only discovered in the last few years ... this changes the lining of your blood cells and causes a clotting factor. This can lead to heart attack and stroke in some, but in my case probably caused clotting in the placenta (but maybe not). There are a lot of things going on with me (I also have a double gene that causes malabsorption of folic, which could also have lead to miscarriage.)
My endo said most thyroid patients can expect healthy pregnancies with careful monitoring and meds. So chin up. Make sure you get the care you need and all should be well. Fingers crossed for you!
