Trying to Get Pregnant

Going crazy...negative pregnancy test but still feel pregnant

Hi everyone, I'm a new member, and I've patiently been waiting to be able to post. I've been going crazy for the last week. We have been off birth control for the last 2 months. This month I really really really feel like I'm pregnant. I am due for my period on the 30th (if I'm regular which I'm not usually). I took an early result test on Saturday (the 26th) and today (the 28th) both of them negative. But I still really feel pregnant (granted I've never been pregnant before). But I've been feeling so off, especially the last week. I've been super nauseated all the time but certain foods and smells really trigger it and I've almost ralphed every where. My breasts are swollen up like cantelopes. I sware my stomach is pooched out. My moods have been fragile. And the biggest thing to me is the general "off" feeling I just feel like I'm "buzzing" or something.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with myself. I am going insane waiting to find out "for sure". I feel like I shouldn't have taken the stupid tests anyways. Cause all its done is made me feel worse. I don't know how I can stand to wait longer to find out. Anybody out there take hpt just to find out they were pregnant after all. How did you deal with the unneasieness of not really knowing? Any just general ideas on how to deal? Anything would be appreciated though I guess you get this a lot.

Re: Going crazy...negative pregnancy test but still feel pregnant

  • Breathe. You may or may not be pregnant. PMS symptoms are very similar to early pregnancy symptoms. Wait a couple days an take another test. Are you temping? If you're not temping you may not know for sure you're due for your period on the 30th.
I recommend reading the newbie blog that is the first thread on the top. And again.... breathe

  • I've actually been off birth control for around 6 months (I was using an iud before then) and I didn't feel anything like this before. But I agree with the post about how pms can feel the same. Just basically another reason why I'm going nuts. Its like I can't just let it go and "let god" so to speak. If I just new for sure one way or another it would be easier. And thanks on the advice on reading the what to post page first. I did read it actually. Which makes me feel silly for posting this, but I just had to vent.

Honestly mate, it happens a lot. When you first start TTC your mind goes into bat shit crazy overdrive and you notice every. Single. Symptom. Ever.
In my 1st month TTC #2 (#1 was a surprise so I had no idea about this shit) I noticed everything from cramps to minor heartburn to tiredness. I convinced myself I was pregnant as I thought I never got these types of symptoms usually.
Turns out I did get these sorts of things every month I had just not noticed them before as I wasn't TTC. As a reminder from my body to my brain to never be so stupid again, I pissed on a stick and while I waited for the response (which I just totes knew was going to be omg positive) I wiped and discovered AF had turned up. It was a First Response too so it was a double kick to the lady balls.
The moral of the story is all the symptoms in the world mean shit. It's the test you listen to.

Edited to cut out slang otherwise none of that would have made sense to 99% of you.

Agree with PPs. It's most likely coming off BCP or pms. Or it is being hyper sensitive to symptoms. Keep testing weekly then call the Dr after 60 days.
    Anniversary

  • As pp have said, your symptoms are not PG related. If your hormones were high enough to create those symptoms you would be able to turn a test. When I was PG with my DS no true symptoms set in until several weeks after my positive test.

  • Thanks everyone for your responses they mean a lot to me. Sorry about the confusion in regards to the birth control, I guess I should have said that I had went off bc 5 or 6 months ago but that we were ttc then. And really we aren't right now either we've just pulled the goalie and are just letting things happen. And I don't want to sound crude but we have so much "intimacy" I never figured i'd have to check my temperature for that reason. But after this month I'm sure that will change (if I'm not pregnant). Its now 430 in the morning and I woke up feeling so sure I was preggos but also getting slight cramps (ugh). I guess that is a bad sign, if I don't feel better soon though I'll have to go to the doctor cause these symtpoms are still there and I just feel crummy.
  • Ditto what PPs have said. I stopped my birth control 7 months ago and my body seems to come up with new symptoms each cycle as well. Unfortunately it happens.

  • It feels like "symptoms" every month in that window when you want a BFP... Makes me feel a tad crazy sometimes. I have to find a way to focus on something else... Running, planning an event coming up...

As others have said, until your hormones are high enough to give you a positive pregnancy test, they aren't high enough to be causing all kinds of symptoms.
  • There is a lot of waiting in trying to get pregnant.  Waiting to O and waiting until you can test and waiting for your period.  It is a true test of patience and it can take a healthy couple up to a year to get pregnant.  If the test is negative you are not pregnant right now.  When you go off BC sometimes your body and hormones do funny things.  Keep waiting and test again in a few more days.

Did the bump gods reinstate the waiting period? Or is this SN a troll someone's been waiting to use since it was in place?

When I made this account (old one had personal info) I had to wait 24-48 hours. I don't recall which anymore but I specifically recall it told me I couldn't post yet when I tried to intro.

I also don't read a lot of intros though so maybe people mention they have to wait there?

I didn't have to wait to post here.  I already had an account from being on The Knot, so i was able to post here right away, i believe.  Could be that's where the Crazies are coming from.
  • To mackenziesmama I'm sorry but I felt your comment was totally rude. I may be acting silly but how I feel is how I feel. And its not wishful thinking its trying to ignore the fact that I feel like I'm going to hurl any minute. How do you ignore that? My other symptoms are real enough to me they maybe in my head, I might be getting amped for my period, or I might actually be pregnant (the tests aren't perfect). I would just appreciate a little respect, especially from someone who has had to play the waiting game themselves.

I'm really not trying to be mean, but I honestly think you can work yourself into symptoms if you want to. If you start thinking about how nauseated you are, and focus on it, and focus on it then it will become worse and worse. Like with a headache if you will.

From my experience, and from what others have told me, we didn't feel pregnant until after we got a positive hpt. We took hpt because we knew we had unprotected sex, and could be pregnant, not because we "felt" pregnant.

    I wish you luck.

  • Ok saying that. I would like to add that yes I had to wait 2 days to post, which wouldn't be such a big deal if I didn't have to wait everywhere else too. Guess I'm not that patient lol.

In addition the reason I am having such a hard time is because the tests are only like 50 to 70% accurate right now. And I'm having a hard time believing this is all "in my head" or period related. And on top of that I foolishly googled about negative testing when actually pregnant and there are a lot of women out there who were preggos ut tested negative.

Has anyone ever heard of someone actually having a hysterical pregnancy? Where you have all the symptoms gain weght and everything? I've seen it on the TV show glee (I know its corny its my guilty pleasure ok? Lol) but is such a thing actually possible?

I suppose anything is possible, but the number of women who get false negatives is far less than the number of women who are just not pregnant. Otherwise no one would ever trust a pregnancy test.

  • Sorry, @aspenpaul2, I'm pretty sure it's a psychological "pregnancy".  I've been in the same boat dozens of times, where things were "for sure different this time, I've never felt this way before!!" and wasn't pregnant.

You're not going to believe anything we say, except for a confirmation, and you're not going to get it (unless it's massively sarcastic).  It's fine if you insist you're pregnant, but don't get mad that we're not going to believe you.  You've gotten plenty of good advice and info, what you do with it is up to you.

You've gotten great answers OP. I suggest you check out the daily two-week-wait (2WW) threads, where everyone posts about their symptoms, testing plans/results etc. It's a mind-fuck, but if the test is negative then the symptoms currently aren't being caused by pregnancy hormone, even if you later turn out to be pregnant.

Because I could deal if I was pregnant or I could deal if I wasn't (gods will and alll that), I'm just having a hard time with the limbo. Jeeze I'm sorry I said anything at all.

I think the 2WW threads are really perfect for posters like OP.  It's a good place to see how everyone has symptoms during the time.  Some end up with pregnancies, and some don't.  It helps put it in perspective that symptoms do not equal pregnancy.

Ugh.  This does not give you automatic credibility. I'm sorry you're stuck in "limbo" that's just how the human body works. Every cycle. Get used to it. Use your super PA powers to access credible resource sites (NOT wikipedia, babygaga etc) and learn that it takes time from ovulation to implantation and positive tests. There is no magic way to know earlier.

Also, sorry for side-eyeing your "I had to wait to post" statement earlier. I see you did only create your account 2 days ago.

I'm not sure its too late for you here if you could stop calling us rude. We all do the waiting, some of us are even waiting to even try. The two week wait thread is a great place to GIVE support to others and to GET it in return from ladies who are in the same spot of their cycle as you are. Consider this thread a loss, step back and try again (in the TWW thread) in a few days if you wish.

  • The TWW thread is a great place to discuss your symptoms and testing plans, etc.  However, be aware that your "my period is due" or "i'm late" laments aren't going to be well-tolerated, even there, unless you have confirmed ovulation via BBT.  the ladies over there that don't monitor BBT are willing to admit that they can't actually tell whether they're late or not because they didn't confirm ovulation.  You either confirm O and can tell that you're late, or you don't confirm O and you keep your mouth shut about it because you realize it is your own fault for not doing the legwork.

OP, after you get your next period, start tracking your BBT, download FF, read the newbie blog, and then hop into the WTO and TWW threads to give and get support.  random threads about "pregnancy symptoms" don't go over well here (with good reason).  you are not alone, and the TWW thread will put that into perspective.  I have also been off BCP for 2 cycles now, and i'm not pregnant yet.  it happens.  if you're healthy and under 35 it should happen for you within 12 months.  If it doesn't, and you need the assistance of an RE, there are also specific boards where you can gain support for that.  i would advise researching those instead of posting random threads.
