Fly Problem

Has anyone ever had a housefly problem?  Since we moved in, we have had consistent flies in our house. Maybe 1-2 new flies daily.  They seem to be pretty dumb and slow-moving as we can easily kill them, but now that we are CDing I am worried about them getting in the pail and laying eggs since that is a good environment for them.  I have no clue how to find where they are coming from or what to do.

I'm pretty sure my property management company will probably brush it off as "it's just flies"  but it's annoying and gross.  Anyone have any suggestions on how to find where they're coming from?

Re: Fly Problem

  • I think it's a summer time thing. We've had flies all summer and never had and issue before. I agree, it's annoying and gross. Not sure if there's much to be done other than kill them and hope they go away soon. Sorry,I know that wasn't much help. Just sharing in the misery.

  • We get them in the summer too. If you have just a few, just kill them or find a trap of some sort.

If you have lots, you might want to check around for a dead mouse or other animal...that will attract tons.

Never had an issue with diapers....

  • I have no advice regarding the diaper pail, but have found the easiest way to catch the flies that make it into our house. I have a handheld, portable dirt devil with a tilt-out wand end and rather than trying to catch and smash them, we just suck them up into the vacuum. By the time we empty it they've usually died, but I do it outside anyway. GL!

  • Wouldn't salt all over your house then cause a problem with ants?

Sugar ants meesh, not salt ants.

And I'm pretty sure my dogs would lick it all up.

  • Well, since none of you have had problems with the flies in poop, I won't worry about it. If they keep bugging me I'll buy something to kill them like you suggested.

Probably won't be the bug-a-salt, though! LOL

  • Sorry , don't know what happened there lol

Put a cut up hot dog with some honey in a glass jar and poke holes in the lid. The flies are really attracted to in and once they fly in they cant get out.

  • My SIL swears by hanging a ziploc bag full of water outside all exterior doors. I'm not sure whether or not it truly works, but she seems to think it does.

This sounds somewhat similiar to the logic of my FIL who thinks that if you spit you won't get posion ivy.  They work outside and whenever they work in an area with poison ivy, he spits b/c that way he won't get it. Not sure how that works.

Apparantly just the mention of me killing the flies scared them away b/c I haven't seen any in a few days. :)
