My DH and I are Netflix junkies (no cable for us!) Anyway, we just finished our last show (New Girl-hilarious) and were looking for a new show to watch together. We decided on Dr Who since it was so highly rated. It a bit strange to say the least. Granted we are only 2 episodes in, but killer mannequins and tree people? Idk if we will stick with it. Anyone out there a Dr who fan? Does it get better?

    Any other Netflix suggestions?

I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, it's one of my favorite shows. Definitely give it a few more episodes, it took me a few to really get into it the first time. If you can, try to at least make it to the 6th episode "Dalek". Some of the best episodes of that season are towards the end, like 9 and 10 "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" which introduce a really popular secondary character on top of being great episodes. The second season introduces David Tennant as the Doctor (my favorite, personally) and has TONS of great episodes.

ETA: But I guess it boils down to, do you like sci-fi or fantasy, or even media with supernatural or paranormal themes? If you don't, you probably won't like the show. I really enjoy watching how the Doctor interacts with people, situations, and his companions through the seasons.

For my own spam of the day:

I did some dusting, vacuumed the house, have laundry going, and I'm finally going to go shower (at 3:30 in the afternoon). Yay I feel accomplished! Asking the husband to pick up McDonalds on his way home because I really don't want to cook is okay, right?
    ;))

  • DH and I had a really wonderful lazy/rainy day yesterday.  We were hoping it would be a beach day, but weather.  Thankfully, one of the cruise ships was late arriving (didn't get in until this morning, usually due yesterday afternoon) so not all of our television signal was blocked and we spent and an hour laughing at Naked Dating on VH1.  I am only slightly ashamed of this.

Otherwise, things seem okay.  The cloth diapers I ordered made it to my mom's and I'll get them when she visits in September and I only have one more case to double check artifact locations for.  Woot woot.

More info please! How does a cruise ship arriving block your signal?

ETA: I'm not going to get all "enjoy it while it lasts" on you, because I freaking hate that. The one thing I miss about being child-less is lazy days. There's just no such thing anymore.
We live essentially next to where the large ships dock. So, on the picture below, we're in the L-shaped building at the bottom straight across from the bow of the ship.  They're here for 2 nights each cruise (2 ships, 2 x per week), 4 nights a week during the season.  Our TV signal is UHF and the way they are positioned plus their height blocks the receiver.  So, from about April/May to October we only have TV 3 days/nights a week.  I tend to bitch a lot about the ships, especially the TV thing and the fact that if it isn't raining, it's constant dance party from 6 pm - 1 am that requires white noise to block and the bands/djs are awful.  The Norwegian Breakaway is the worst.

    +1. Need more info.

Our houseguests leave tonight! I've bitched about them for the past couple weeks. They are a family of four and they have been staying with us for two weeks. This weekend DH and I were out of town camping, and we got a text from them when we were driving home asking if homemade pizza sounded good for dinner. We figured maybe they wanted to spearhead that effort and get dinner started. Got home at 6:30 pm and nothing was even remotely organized - no grocery shopping had been done, nothing. I went to the store, bought everything, came home, made dinner, and cleaned the kitchen. After dinner I got roped into playing card games with the older daughter, as usual, because her parents won't play with her. I'm sick of being the cook and kid entertainer.

End rant. Thanks for letting me bitch.

  • @sarabell52 I'm in Bermuda.  It's lovely and I love living in the spot that we do, especially in the winter (a bit isolated, but quiet and easily the best views on the island), but during cruise ship season, it can get absolutely ridiculous.

Ive been trying to do laundry and cook a bunch (since its cool today and i for once dont feel like im going to gag every other second). The majority of the cleaning will have to wait til tomorrow. I'm trying not to feel guilty about that.

Thank your for the awesome reply! We definitely want to give Dr Who more time. We watched two more episodes tonight and I'm starting to think I'll like it. Although I do think I'll prefer the episodes that visit the past instead of the future. I've always been a fan of history and "seeing" important events and people from the past is so interesting to me.

I do think sci-fi is a bit of a leap for us though. It isn't the usually category we choose from so I'm really not used to it.

There are lots of episodes that go into the past, episodes 9 and 10 of season 1 that I mentioned are during WWII for example. I like to think that the Doctor sort of helps keep the viewer grounded, even if he's wonderfully strange, so that the sci-fi doesn't get too 'weird'. And the perk of it being episodic, is that the plotline is always changing so if you don't like one episode, odds are that there will be one that you love right around the corner. :)

I really love Doctor Who and I hope you do too.
