So here is what I have to say about these posts. First, just because you have a BS doesn't mean anything. Many schools require different pre-reqs that you may not have taken. I know that my school for example required some of the pre-reqs to be taken within the last 5 years, those classes I believe were math or a drug calculation course, A&P 1&2.
I do not have a BSN. I have a BA in psych and criminal justice and a nursing diploma from one of the last hospital based programs in PA. I am currently half way through my RN-BSN program. Employers do not care if you have a BA or a BS, only a BSN.
Not trying to be snarky here, but I will echo some of what others are saying. People will tell you you will find a job, it is really REALLY hard to do that. Of 62 graduates, the hospital that OWNS the school we attended, only 6 (SIX) were hired as new grads. Those that were hired already had an in as we quit our jobs to work as patient technicians for next to nothing while in school.
People will tell you you can take these classes while working/raising a family. Nursing school is no joke. I cried myself to sleep many times over nursing school and how I had no life for two whole years. Nothing got done around my house, all of my energy was focused solely on nursing school. If you get a 75 (which is considered a passing grade everywhere else) you are kicked out of the program.
I think that you were given frank and honest advice here, it is very hard to make this career change and be successful.
I don't think it's going to be easy that's why I said I would take one class at a time. I don't think I need to list the pre reqs and check off the ones that I have taken already. Please retread mine and tell WHERE ever I said it would be easy lol. @nursesouder I wanted frankness which I got from you and appreciate it, I don't want to put all the time and energy into switching careers if I can't get a job and if it's a horrible career. What I'm hearing is getting a job is tough but people love their jobs have they have worked some pretty shitty jobs right? Once you have experience the jobs open up. All I was telling other poster was most of my pre reqs are done, I can't get why that's hard for any of you to understand, never did I say I will take no classes and dance my way into a hospital. Obviously. I would need classes.
@nursesouder, @jennkg3 actually stated that she would take her time with pre reqs and then start a program when her kids started school. It's toward the top of this page.
Re: Nbr- career change question nursing??
