Cloth Diapering

Help ID this rash please!

Lurker needing help!
DS2 has had this rash for a week already.  It is only on his hips, the first day it was just a small patch. I treated it for yeast the first 4 day, put in sposies.  Wash all of my diapers & covers; HE FL softish water, hot prewash, hot wash heavy duty with half scoop country save and tea tree oil, warm rinse. Then regular wash with 1/2c bleach, followed by 4 quick washes and I checked the last one to make sure there wasn't any suds. Tuesday I put him back into his regular diapers (thinking YAY!!) and the rash came back.  Now I am on day 4 again and it isn't going away.  It is not yeast? Did I not treat me diapers correctly?  Help, I HATE sposies!

  • Nowhere else at all. He gets an hour of diaper free time 2 times a day. Many I should try some cortisone cream? Is cortisone cream ok with cloth? I only use flats.

  • He started army crawling last week. He has been in sposies for 4 days again and it still isn't going away. I would think if the flats or covers are rubbing that it would have gotten better already? This morning it looks a little bit better, not as red. I put coconut oil/lavender/copaiba mix on it and a stay dry pocket.

  • My pedi is on vacation so all I would be able to see is a family practice (no help with rashes). It has some raised bumps that made me think it wasn't a burn. It hasn't spread at all, stayed in same spots on his hips. The fact that it's on his hips seems weird to me.

No expert here, but I agree it looks like sensitivity from rubbing and/or heat and/or moisture. I would slather on lots of coconut oil or waxelene and change really often all day. See if that makes a difference.

  • Are you sure family practice can't help? That's who we see for our regular doctor.

  • Yes, we have seen the family practice dr 2 other times, once for RSV and once for eczema. He right out said "he doesn't do rashes, that's what derm is for". Our pedi (only one around here) is gone for another week.

  • Four days not in cloth tells me it's unrelated. I'm don't know if cortisone creame is cd safe, but since you gave sposies give it a go. It can't hurt.
