Cloth Diapering

NCDR: Tummy Time question

Hey Guys,
So little man's cord finally fell off and we tried tummy time yesterday.
It was.. unpleasant.
I know he can lift his head because when he would be laying on my chest he would lift his head and look me directly in my face.
But I put him on an activity mat with a little roll thing that came with it specifically for tummy time and he pretty much just rested his forehead on the ground, grunted a bunch and kicked his legs.

Maybe I'm doing it all wrong but the roll was around his chest area. Should I just put him directly on the mat?

Bonus. here's a picture of Felix being a judgeypants and one of him in his first cloth diaper (the Harry Potter Doodle Dipes)

  • OK I'll try again without the roll. Hopefully he starts to like it.

DD hated tummy time and still isn't crazy about it but she has really bad reflux. I just put her down as long as she would tolerate it (until she got crying or spit up and cried or hiccups). And she learned to roll to avoid it really early. And I did it multiple times a day for a minute or two at a time. Even with her reflux it did get better with time.

  • Normal.  I found that DS tolerated tummy time just a bit more if I used the Boppy.  It got him off the floor a bit more.  Honestly though, I didn't do it too much.  He would lift his head just fine when he was tummy down on our chests and I wore him everywhere so his neck got a good workout there too.  He didn't truly tolerate it until he was able to roll on his tummy by himself.

This. On our chests, or while being worn was the way to go here too.

Like awful said, we do a lot of tummy time with LO on our chests. She is much happier that way. I put her on her tummy in the PNP while I wash my hands after changing her diaper, but she hates it.

  • And I probably wouldn't sweat tummy time too much. Heck, there's even an argument against it. But I doubt your kid will remain immobile forever if you don't get "enough" tummy time in.
  • Glad its not just Felix. Ill check that link out!
