Egg Retrieval meds used?

Do different clinics have different procedures when it comes to medication/sedation during egg retrievals? Do some use local anesthesia and others general? My clinic uses "Twilight Anesthesia", can anyone explain what exactly this is and what you feel/how alert you are during the procedure? Thank you.

I had no anesthesia, just an I'm shot of dilaudid and a tiny dose of oral Xanax before mine. I was awake the whole time but felt a little loopy. It wasn't painful for the most part. The only time I really cringed was when he was moving my ovaries around to egg all the eggs. But it wasn't terrible. If I had to do it over and I got to chose, I would do it with the same drugs again. Anesthesia makes me sick so I'm glad it wasn't an option.
Twilight anesthesia is basically conscious sedation. You will be awake but pretty out of it and probably won't know what's going on. You will probably have iv sedatives. With regular anesthesia, you are completely out. It is a lot harder on your body than just sedation.

I was given IV anesthesia. I'm guessing maybe twilight because I fell asleep for maybe 10 minutes. I fell asleep shortly after the anesthesia went in and then I remember waking up while the RE was saying that he got 9. He was talking to someone else though, not me. It was all really fast and I felt nothing during the actual ER. After is another story! Keep on top of the pain meds for that day for sure.

Mine does twilight as well and I have asked so many questions and am still confused LOL. I was told that in terms of what I knew happened though that it would be similar to when I had surgery and was completely out.

@jencity9 - The actual ER, yes. It took some time before that, I had to sign more paperwork and the IV was put in. They made me try to pee right before to make sure my bladder was as empty as possible. Then I got on the table, my legs went up and were strapped in and they got ready. The anesthesia went in and I promptly fell asleep. C says I wasn't out for long. She could hear it all happening. C just agreed that the actual procedure was about 10 minutes.

If you've ever had an endoscopy or colonoscopy...it's like that. They set me up with the IV and then I waited for my turn. I walked in the retrieval room. I remember them starting to strap my legs in and then I was out. You can feel it fall over you. Next thing I remember was waking up in waiting room and my husband was in there with me. The RE had already been out to see him and he could tell me about our crappy retrieval. Some people are made really chatty by the meds which is fun for all the others in the waiting area.
