Cloth Diapering

CD not allowed at DC; is it worth it at home?

I searched and didn't find this so I have a question/problem. We met with daycare last night, highly recommended, affordable, and only watches teachers kids so we do not have to pay to hold a spot through the summer. However, we tried to sway her to use cloth diapers, explained ease, how to use, wet bags. We were hit with "it's unsanitary, I just won't do it". I'm upset, but this is the only issue we have where we do not see eye-to-eye. My true question: Is it worth it to CD at home and send disposables to DC? It seems like a lot to undertake two forms of diapering. Thoughts? Anyone else have to do sposies at DC? TIA for the perspectives.

Re: CD not allowed at DC; is it worth it at home?

  • I couldn't get our DC to budge, either, but we agreed on a compromise: I can drop DS off in a CD, and they will put a CD on him at the end of the day. That way I don't have to deal with disposing of a sposie. He's only there 2 days a week, so I'm still CD'ing him most of the time. It screws with my laundry routine slightly, because I don't have as many diapers to wash on those days, but that just means stretching my schedule out another half to full day between loads.

If he is there long enough I might revisit the issue, since I don't think there's any difference between them storing the 1st diaper of the day and all the diapers in between. But it's a choose-your-battles, and your timing, kind of thing right now.

  • Thanks for the replies. We have a decent stash we've acquired for cheap from coop buys and following the deals posted here. I want to give it a go, just bummed DC wouldn't even do a trial run. She's a very great lady, just a bit set in her ways. We are looking at a center that will CD but it's double the cost, so it's not worth it financially. Ugh! Wish the general public wasn't so poo squeamish.

I hear ya - we're looking at a DC for DS this time next yr, and as of now they don't allow CDs. But Im going to make it my mission for the next year to do my best to get them to change their policy before we start there. Ive already started by talking to a few people, and will revisit in a few weeks.

But I know it totally sucks, and we would still CD evenings and weekends too... :(

  • DS is only in DC 3 days a week, so our situation may be a bit different

We use cloth at home after DC and every day he's home and disposables during his DC hours. To me, it's definitely still worth it. I only need to buy one jumbo box of diapers maybe once every 3 months vs. buying that monthly or even more often.

I will never understand how poop in a disposable in the trash is more sanitary than poop in cloth in a wet bag! It's the same people!!!
And less poop leaks from cloth diapers!  I was the first to use cloth at the daycare LO goes to and she reaves about them to other momma's.

Lol I didn't even think about that! Our DC always comment on how her diapers never smell! :)
