That is the whackest DD Ive ever seen. I saw the original post, it wasnt a big deal and BHJ did a great job offering an answer. I was going to respond with snark but opted not to. There was no reason to delete that.

bhjones1980 Wow bitcehs be trippin much? My only thing with the gender blood test thing is a lot of people don't know its actually for testing abnormalities. They probably heard it the way I did where the person only mentions it told them the gender...not the part that it told them their baby didn't have abnormalities.
One thing irritating me lately is I see a lot of post where people say they found out the gender early and that they don't care what anyone else thinks about that. Or they mention not wanting to be attacked for learning it. Umm ok? No ones going to say anything snarky if you say hey we did that test and our baby has no problems oh and they did say the gender btw. I just don't care for how they throw that bit out there like they are expecting to be attacked.

Uh wut? Your doctor didn't tell you the blood test was to check for chromosomal abnormalities? And that it checks for "gender" not sex? That's a problem.
My doctor doesn't perform any tests that can reveal gender. I had never heard about the MaterniT21 or Harmony testing until my SIL had the Harmony performed. My misinformation all came from my MIL who claimed to not remember the name of the test but just told me "it tests the gender". Because at the time no one was suppose to know my SIL's baby had a abnormal NT scan so MIL just told family it was a blood test for gender.

That was a lame DD. I read the original post before @bhjones1980 even responded and I was thinking she was so gonna get flamed. But that was so an above board answer!! No one QFP-ed because I dont think that anyone would have thought she would DD that. Pfft.
I'm waiting until I get off work to make mine happen.

Eh, @psychobutthead, that was me that you're talking about in your posts about finding out the sex after figuring out all was well. And yeah, I was nervous about it because while I'm pretty active on this board, it can be a hot topic. People who don't know me might get the wrong impression. I later thought "accused" (not attacked, I didn't use that word) wasn't the right word to use; more my own fears, so I own that.
Awaiting our bundle of cute chaos.

@I don't remember specifically who but I've seen it several times through out this week by different people.
I think anything we say online can give off the wrong impression about ourselves. Anyone can read what we post and feel it has a certain tone to it. I wasn't trying to personally say it was you, its just an observation I've made.

A lot of FTM I'm sure won't know the names of test checking for abnormalities. When I had my daughter Harmony and MaterniT21 weren't offered, 3D ultrasounds weren't offered either. Also not all OB's perform those specific test. Some places its common to have them done for every patient. My OB doesn't do either of those.
Yeah some questions I see are pretty stupid. Sometimes I think people are just wanting to draw attention to themselves. They usually end up doing a pretty good job of it, even though it ends up being all negative attention.

@psychobutthead Oh ok. Besides your specific scenario of misinformation from MIL, I don't know how other women would not know the test checks for chromosomal abnormalities, as that is exactly how doctors describe those tests.
I think in general I'm shocked with how little people know how to use the Internet. Sure googling things can cause problems (like web md fear mongering)... but that lady on 1st tri asking about chewing gum- if you have a question that seems dumb, just Google it, don't post on a message board.
Ohhh my gosh I'm so glad you saw that post!! SO RIDICULOUS!

People are misinformed and sometimes dont take the time to research. There are fairly new "sex reveal, just for fun test" and there are the more common "abnormality screenings" that happen to test the sex gene.

Aandstilltrying is still around - she was not one of the OPs but she was one of the agree-ers in the threads. thegoodpotato called her out in another thread - asking about why she wanted to stick around when we were so mean - but she just said 'leave me alone - I like some people'
BLECH, I just ate the worst "burger" ever. The kind from our work vending machine. I know I should have known better but I've been craving a burger for days. It was so much worse than fast food, it tasted nothing like a burger.
why do all my yellow notification flags all say "# new plural" now instead of just "# new" replies...
I don't like it
I don't know but I hate it!
But, you should know! You are an all-knowing MOD!!
Also, interestingly, once you click on a thread to remove the flag, and after another new post is added, the new flag says the orginal '#new" without the 'plural' --- so weird.

Yep. They're stocked daily, and then you have to microwave them.

@nohalo21 : lol. Have you ever actually eaten it? I haven't but a good friend lived in Korea for a year and mailed me sweet potato flavoured ham. I've had it in my cupboard for over 3 years. Lol. I guess I'm saving it for when the zombie apocalypse happens!
Yes but I haven't had it years. I also live in the land of Scrapple so we love our meat byproducts around here.
I'll be honest, sweet potato ham sounds revolting. I would be saving it also for the apocalypse, haha.

Not meaning to derail the current topic... a page before someone brought up those genetic test that could identify gender as a side benefit. I really need to have a rant about this topic or I would continue to be upset in my own little world. Here it goes:
DH and I met up with our friend and her hubby a week ago, she's a few months further along than me. The hubby asked if we know what we're getting yet, I said I won't know til 20 weeks. The couple both said that's "wrong", why are you finding out so late? The woman told me since we both go to the same clinic, I should ask for the blood test, that's what she had and that it was 'standard'. I read the material given to me by my OB and know a genetic test only offered if the combined test is not good, not a gender determination test. She INSISTED it was. And then the pair of them proceeded to tell us we got 'duped', or that my OB wasn't as good as theirs. I came home from that lunch and have since been very unhappy about the whole exchange.
Yesterday DH told me the husband said he had to take part in some testing too, DH was asking if he should expect to have blood drawn too at our genetic testing appointment. So the truth comes out, they most likely had some bad results and so they were offered the test. I'm still kinda upset because I felt like they wanted to make me fee likel I missed out on something.
@PikoPiko I'm sorry she made you feel that way. It is definitely not standard, and insurance typically covers it in the instance of AMA or genetic need. Perhaps she was not comfortable admitting that there could be a problem with one of them (her H, by the sound of it).
