High-Risk Pregnancy

Pregnant with Uterus Didelphys

Hi all!
My husband and I just found out a few days ago that we are pregnant! As excited as we are with the news, I am a little nervous because of a condition we found I had about a year ago... It's called Uterus Didelphys which is a condition that you are born with when your uterus' that form off your kidneys do not fuse together to form as one. Because of this, I have 2 fully enclosed uterus as well as 2 cervices and at one point I had 2 vaginas. (My husband was sad when he found out that i now only have one lol)

I guess I would just like to know if other people have had this and your success/concerns with the condition. My doctor said that unfortunately I would never be in the "clear" in terms of worrying about miscarriage. Is it really something i should worry about? Or is she just covering all her bases?

My medical history does not have anything significant. Im 25 years old, no miscarriages, and I've been on prenatal vitamins since April when we started TTC.

Thoughts? Much appreciated!!!

Rachel

Re: Pregnant with Uterus Didelphys

  • I also have a didelphic uterus, and have a perfectly healthy 8 year old son (he was born when I was 23). That said, I had a miscarriage when I was 21. I had absolutely zero problems with my pregnancy. I did go see my OB and a specialist every week to monitor things, since this isn't common and they wanted to make sure my cervix (since they are smaller than usual) would do it's job. I made it full term without having to get cerclage or any other interventions (no bed rest, etc).
Honestly, I wouldn't worry. It's amazing how our bodies just make it work, even with a uterus that is 1/2 the size. The only thing I will say is my son was on the small end of normal, he was about 20 inches long and 6 pounds even. But, that's perfectly normal and healthy.
    Congrats to you!!
