Trying to Get Pregnant

The amazing properties of POM

Is anyone else currently enbibing POM? I've read a lot of not so scientific articles stating it thickens uterine lining and makes uterus more friendly to implantation. What do you think... Legit fertility booster or quack science?

  • Along those lines, I know everyone here is about drink til its pink, but are there circumstances where you would advise against drinking while TTC?

Disclaimer: I've had two glasses of Red tonight.

I would guess where your dr said so.  For me, it is drink til it's pink, but if I were doing a medicated cycle of some sort where alcohol was contraindicated with the meds, then I would not be drinking.
Nah. Doctor never said anything.  So there's really no research that suggests it lowers fertility then?

  • My OBGYN said that drinking is OK pre-O, but I should try to abstain during the TWW just in case of a BFP.   She also said that she *prefers* patients who are TTC limit to only a few drinks a week (ha!) - less because of potential impact to the baby and more because of the potential impact to implantation.  Then went on to say how unrealistic that is for most.  I'm doing my best to back off the sauce while WTO, but will abstain during TWW.  Which means on weekends everyone is going to ask me if I'm PG when they notice I'm not holding my usual cocktail/wine.  Which sucks.

My OB pretty much told me the same thing. Occasional glass of wine is ok, etc. My first thought was "But it's the summer and every weekend involves day drinking! Wahhh."

A little trick I learned from previously pregnant friends is to drink straigt seltzer water or club soda with a lime and a few ice cubes in a cocktail glass. Looks just like a vodka soda and people are none the wiser. If you're feelin' festive add a splash of cran or pineapple.

I can't comment on POM.  It has tons of health benefits, so it can't hurt to drink it, but I don't know anything about purported fertility benefits.
It's a personal preference, but you don't have to live like you are pregnant until you are. If you want a drink during the TWW go for it. Don't binge drink everyday, but you shouldn't do that anyway.

Personally I'm in the "may indulge occasionally in a small glass of wine when pregnant" camp.
My problem is with the fine line of how much is too much.  Is one glass every evening too much? Or 2 glasses a few times a week?  That's what I can't seem to reconcile with myself. @DarcyHermione, TTC is stressing me out.  And, when I'm stressed out I want my wine.  I'm thinking way too much about this, aren't I?

I think one or two glasses an evening is fine. Heavy drinking or binge drinking is when you indulge in more than 3 or 4 a night on a regular basis.
    Thanks for your input :)

  • I don't drink much but I am with @courtyowl427... summer = occasional day drinking!  I'm going to drink til it's pink.  At this rate, it may help with the fact that I'm not getting a pink.

See, I would think you would want to abstain more before O because that could potentially impact egg quality. Once you O, what's done is done, drink up because the fetus doesn't get nutrients from the mother until around 6 weeks. Moderate alcohol use isn't going to make your uterine lining deplete prior to implantation.

And that first part is merely my own thinking and there is zero medical back up on that theory.

What GM said. I find myself, not really consciously, limiting intake before O. The thought that maybe it could possibly impact quality has crossed my mind a few times, but I've never put much work into actually researching it. I just happen to drink less during that part of my cycle. That said, my OBGYN said to enjoy my life, don't go nuts & once I get a positive test, to stop drinking. It's a personal preference, though.

As for POM, it's a bunch of hooey. Drink it if you want to, but don't expect it to do anything for your lining.
