embryo adoption & religion

We are considering embryo adoption but one of the things that is holding us back is religion. Some agencies will only work with 'christian' couples, others that are religion neutral the couples often have religious preferences. We are... agnostic at best, is embryo adoption going to be harder for us because of this?

Depends on the route you want to take. I know plenty of people who are not religious and have been matched. It really comes down to either the agency or donor and what they are looking for and I know lots of donor couples might actually specifically look for someone who is not religious. If you are using an agency that requires you to be Christian, you could always try to match yourself privately on sites like Miracles Waiting and the like. Also reach out to the agencies to be sure of their requirements because even though many have a Christian influence, they may not actually have that requirement of recipient couples. Good luck!

Liz gave some great info. My recomendation is to look at different programs and find out what their requirements are. We quickly passed on a big name program with great success rates that my RE recommended because of the requirements that they put on potential patients, even though we met all of their requirements.

Yep, agree with Liz/PPs. We are a gay couple which knocked us out of some options - we ultimately went with Donor Egg/Donor Sperm but there are people out there like you, who do NOT want someone Christian or religious... you just have to find them .

I remember seeing a lot of donors that weren't looking for someone religious. Check out Donor Source. They have donors all over the country. I didn't research Embryos so I'm of no help there.

I agree with Liz.  You just need to do your research to find them.  It's definitely not easy.
