Strep B

I just got the phone call saying I have strep B. I am wondering if it was because I had the stomach flu a couple days before they took the test. They told me it's nothing to be worried about, I will have to take antibiotics when I go into labor. Anyone else have this or deliveried with it? I started to google and you always find bad things on google. Any information would be great. Thanks!

I'm no doctor, but I don't think the flu has anything to do with it. My understanding is that is just something you can have at anytime, pretty much. I was positive with DS and am again this time. It's no big deal as long as you get antibiotics in labor. There was thread a few days ago on this.

  • Yup, I heard something like 30% of women are positive for it. They just give you antibiotics during early labor which very much minimized the risk of any complications for baby. Nothing to do with he flu and everything should be fine!
  • Flu = virus, Strep = bacteria. For clarification purposes, the "stomach flu" which is not actually caused by influenza, can be caused by bacteria but not by group B strep. Most people get a viral stomach bug such as rotavirus.

But regardless of how you got it, the link in the pp should be helpful for you :)

  • I had it with DD. It was no big deal. I had the antibiotics in labor and we were all fine.
