I even said to my husband a few weeks ago, "Why can't we just lay eggs," and he was all, "Would you want to sit around on an egg," and I pointed out that he could be helping with the egg.

I came in to see if you were talking about the fruit or New Zealanders... totally forgot about the bird. Poor kiwi. At least the chick is contained in an egg. Could you imagine birthing something with a beak like that? Ouch! [-(

we should all sympathize with elephants as well.  they are pregnant for 22 months!  that's nearly 2 years, NO THANK YOU!

I also sympathize with horses. 11 months...our broodmare was always miserable toward the end, too.
