Strollers, Strollers!!! Going NUTS!

Hello Ladies!!! Hope your day is going well. This is my first baby and I have NO CLUE about Strollers. I sort of started the registry for the baby shower, but when I started seeing the strollers OMG!!! there are SO MANY and so expensive!

I would like a light/convertible stroller that might come with the car seat and to be honest I wouldn't like to spend so much money on it.

What are your thoughts? Any suggestions in brands? Size? Types? PLEASEE HELP ME!!!

Thank you!!!

We're going with the Chicco Keyfit 30 car seat/Cortina stroller based on a recommendation from a friend.  We tested it out in a store and it was easy to fold up and light enough to lift if needed.  I too got very overwhelmed with all the options, and if our friend is the type that can get pretty picky.  So i know if she recommended it, I know it will be good quality and not a PITA to use.

I thought about a jogging stroller, but I am so fickle with my running routine (ie, while I have the best of intentions, I haven't really done much running since way before I got preggo).  If I decide later that I do want a jogger, I can likely find one on craigs list.

  • I have like 6 strollers and the city mini is still my fave, hands down. Easy to handle and fold, compact, etc. You can get an adapter bar for your car seat so it will just snap in. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. I do not recommend a bulky travel system.

  • All gracco strollers and car seats were just recalled. I'm going with Chico!
  • There are TOO MANY options!

After lots and lots of reviews I'm going with Lucie's List recommend of the Britax B Safe travel system - the price is right and my brain is going to break if I read any more about strollers or carseats. Sheesh. :)

  • I was planning on a Chico, but my parents are insisting on getting us the Uppababy. Who am I to say no? It's an awesome stroller so I am super excited and thankful.

The Graco recall was because some buckles were getting stuck closed. The seat was not unsafe and they encourage people to continue using the seat while waiting for the replacement buckle.

We got a Graco travel system. It's probably one of the cheapest. It's easy to fold, fits in the trunk, and sturdy even after 2 years. I would recommend it.

  • My one piece of advice is when you find a stroller you like, try and fit it in your car. A lot of stores will let you see if it fits in your trunk. Ours is a large jogging stroller (baby trend expedition exl) that we love, but have to take the back wheels off to fit it in the trunk. So that's a bit of a pain. But, I love the stroller and the car seat that comes with it is excellent and super light. Only 7lbs.

  • I'm also a FTM, but we purchased the City Mini. It's light, compact, easy to fold, etc. So far I like it, but then again there's no baby in it yet.

  • With strollers you definetly get what you pay for. You'll want to try them out, practice folding lifting etc. Push it around on different surfaces. Any stroller will push fine on smooth store floors but how it handles in real world situations is important. What features are important- big basket, parent facing, bassinet etc?

We have a Britax B-Ready used as a single for outdoor walks etc. Baby Jogger City Versa in the car for shopping errands etc. Also a BJ City Micro I bought for travel.

  • We decided to skip the stroller where the infant seat can fit and just splurge on the BOB Revolution.  I wore DD in a carrier for the first few months anyways so it worked out. I love our BOB and we use it all the time, more than just for running or walking.

  • I am leaning towards the mamas and papas stroller. The armadillo stroller specifically. Looks lightweight enough for me to use without any help...plus my trunk is small in my car and it looks like it can fit which is ultimately going to sway my decision in the end.
  • I'm going with the Chicco Keyfit30 and the Liteway stroller based on a rec from Lucy's List. We tried it out at BRU and it was light and folded easily.

If you don't want to spend much, Graco and Baby Trend are brands to consider.  Forgive me as I haven't looked at strollers since my son was born a year ago but I don't think things have changed too much.  At that time. Baby Trend had a great travel system with a compact umbrella type stroller.  We almost bought it but decided on the Graco carseat in the end.  No travel system, instead we used a frame stroller (bought on consignment because it wasn't going to be used long) for the infant seat.  We now use a The First Years Ignite umbrella stroller.  Compact but taller and sturdier than the very cheap Cosco umbrella strollers.  We thought, and still think, it was a good compromise on features and cost.  Anything bigger wouldn't be as portable (we have two sedans, no roomy minivan or SUV).  And if you are in the market for a jogger (or something more suitable for long walks) we got the InStep Grand Safari.  Easy on the budget and a quality stroller.

  • Getting a city mini.  Not sure if i'm going to do the infant carseat yet or just go straight to a convertible....

  • If look into the city versa, it's pretty much a compact stroller with all the features of a full size. Or you can refer to it as a full size city mini :) It's $229 on amazon right now, so definitely consider it! Also, you can check craigslist, many times people have new and like new baby gear for sale. For us, we need reversible seats, must have a seat that reclines with the foot rest (didn't like DD's feet hanging while she was reclined), decent wheels, adjustable handle bars (I'm short, DH is tall/huge) and a huge sunshade. Good quality and customer service is also important for us.

We only had one stroller and it was the City Mini. I recommend it to everyone. We also had the adaptor for the Chicco Keyfit 30.

  • Not all the graco car seats were recalled, mostly just the classic connect not so much the click connect. Plus they chose to recal before problems and will send free seat belt replacement.

We're stuck between a graco and a summer travel set, I wanna see them both before I decide.
  • I'm getting the Chicco Keyfit 30 Travel System. My sister has one and loves it. Hands down my favorite infant seat on the market and it fits in my small car. Most the travel systems are bulky and a pain in the rear, but I never had problems using my sisters.

Chicco has had major recalls, too.
  • Went and tried some yesterday.  I'm looking for a lightweight stroller and will probably end up getting the city mini 4 wheel with carseat adaptor.  Such an easy fold!  Also felt more sturdy to me than the 3-wheel version.

  • THANK YOU LADIES!!!! I have HW to do with all your recommendations! :D

  • I went through the exact same thing with my first baby. It took months to decide which stroller would be perfect for me. At first I was pretty sure I wanted to get the bugaboo camilian but after days of research and hearing from my mom friends that own one I have heard it wasn't the easiest to use and was a but heavier then most strollers. I started looking at the Upoababy and once we tried it out in the store I instantly fell in love with it. The design is super cute not to mention its easy to use, light weight and has tons if adaptable parts. We have ours in Lindsey and I love it but the color tends to get dirty quickly. If I could go back I would have bought it in black for that reason alone. Now with baby number two on the way I don't even have to buy a new stroller. We plan on getting the rumble seat which just simply attaches on in the back like an extra seat and boom double stroller. We use adapters for our car seat and there you go! Saved use hundreds!!! I recommend this stroller to everyone! I do have a second stroller only because I felt like I needed a handy umbrella stroller just in case I need to grab it and go. It's a maclaren. Also my fave! Just easier to travel with.
  • I have done TONS of research on car seats/strollers and my friend (who has twin 5yos) has done more than me. I have come to the conclusion that I want to do the Britax B-Safe or the Chicco Key Fit 360. Both are top rated brands for safety. I looked into the corresponding strollers but didn't like either. I am more drawn to a jogger since I know I will get more use out of it in the long run and I don't want to get a stroller just made for babies under a year because then you have to start the whole process again as baby gets older. The BOB revolution jogger has attachments for the Britax b-safe and the Chicco key fit so whichever one we end up getting we will just buy the attachment and can use it as baby transitions and with another baby. Then I plan on getting an umbrella stroller for quick trips or easy use.

In the end it comes down to how you want to use it, how easy/difficult you find it is to put together. Ask friends who have different types if you can come over and play with theirs. The store is nice but I find I get a better feel for them in real life and not just with a display. :)
  • We got the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the Baby Jogger City Versa. I really loved the City Mini GT, but didn't like the idea of not being able to take out the seat when using the car seat. I wanted to like the UppaBaby Vista or Stokke, but they just seemed so heavy and big and the fold was a deal breaker.
