Thyroid problems

Tomorrow I have an appt with my dr to talk about the crazy anxiety I've been having since after LO was born. While I am there I think I'm going to have her check my thyroid as well. I've been having weird physical symptoms and I'm not sure if it's thyroid related (runs in the family) or if it's all anxiety related.
Anyway, I know it's been talked about on here but I can't dig up the thread. I've seen you ladies mention a full panel test that should include certain things, what are they? I just wanna make sure they look at everything they should.

    T3, t4, free T3, free T4...what am I missing?

Honestly, though, if you have a half decent doc, they should know what's involved in a full thyroid panel.

ETA: I think it's a really good idea to get your thyroid checked. It's just such a common problem...also, make sure to keep your results so you can compare them year to year.

Thanks! I figured id ask because I'm having my OBGYN check it (hopefully) and not sure if they know or not. Actually I don't have much faith in my primary dr either since I see them maybe 1x a year or less and alway get a different dr.
I'm just hoping this explains something and will be a contributing factor why my anxiety is so bad and random.
  • Good luck! My OB is the one who keeps tabs on my thyroid and does all that testing.

Your OBGYN should absolutely know what's involved. It's mainly women who have thyroid problems (in my experience) and with all the hormones running around post-partum, it's prime time for it to pop up. Many women never go to a primary care (they just see their gyns yearly) so OBGYNs probably know a lot more than they get credit for.

  • Full panel is all of the above plus: TSH, antibodies, T3rU,

Thanks for adding what I missed. Not sure how I missed TSH...

  • Thanks ladies! I'll make sure to ask her if they are testing for all of the above! I love my OBGYN so hopefully she can manage whatever needs to be done.
@quartermisses‌ Just out of curiosity what kind of extras come with a thyroid problem?
  • I know blood pressure and cholesterol can be affected as well...

Eye problems and heart problems are the big ones. I have to have an echo every couple of years, and go see the super-secret-squirrel eye doctor so he can measure my eyes and sockets.

Wow that's crazy I had no clue!

Yeah, me, too! They did MRIs of my eye sockets. It was serious bizniz.
