Cloth Diapering

Help me pick the right fitted.

I know there has been a lot of threads about fitteds lately but I have a few specific features I am looking for.  I need one to be 1. All natural fibers. 2. Have a flap or snap in or some way to be able to clean it with ease. 3. Be good for night time.  My 19 mo old is not a heavy wetter.  Up until a week ago she would go through the night w/ a trifolded cotton prefold and cotton/velour doubler.  But this past week she is leaking every other night.  My biggest concern is being able to get a really thick fitted clean in my HE FL.  Suggestions?

Re: Help me pick the right fitted.

  • This may be a suspected answer, but I would say twinky tush night night. It is super duper absorbent. It has three separate inserts, two snap in. So you can adjust the absorbency, and because the are removes led it launders easily, but the body does take a little longer to dry.

  • Regular twinkie tushes should be just fine as well, if you don't think she's a super soaker. That's all we use as we have no need for the additional soaker the Night Nights have.

  • The NN has tons of absorbency. I agree with @jepes , if you don't need the absorbency why pay $50 for the TTNN? You'll need a good roomy cover over, i.e. coveralls.

I knew I would get that as a suggestion.  I was hoping to get some other suggestions too just because I don't really want to go quite that high in price.  And I am not sure I need that much absorption b/c she is not a "heavy wetter".  She just sleeps loooong! (not complaining about that at all!)

ETA: I posted the above before I saw the 2 previous replies.  I must be a slow typer...
  • Sbish snapless are good for not heavy wetters. DS usually wakes up with a soaked diaper, but no leaks if he's been hitting the sippy of water hard overnight. It'll be dry in the back if he hasn't had as much.

Imagine fitteds also have a snap in soaker, but I find they take longer to dry and are bulkier than my sbish.

  • Yeah, of course you'd get the TT recommendation. But those are the only fitteds I have, so I couldn't recommend anything else from experience. Im guessing you'll get a few s'bish recommendations as well. P can easily sleep for 10+ hours in a TT. And yes, a large coverall will be great for covering whatever ON fitted you get.

  • Have you considered a hemp doubler with the prefold? That's what I use and never have leaks - DS isn't a heavy wetter but he does sleep about 11 hours.

  • I think TTNN would be overkill in this case.

Sbish is a good idea, but if you are worried about laundry ...

Maybe look into Grovia Kiwi Pie. I think they changed their fabric from what got a couple of years ago, but I think it is still all or mostly natural fibers. It is more of a daytime fitted, but it comes apart in thin layers, and you can always add a doubler to the outside if you need more absorbency.
  • Sbish OBFs were our nighttime diaper of choice!

We use sbish snapless fitteds. DD isn't a real heavy wetter but she's worn those diapers for long stretches and they hold a lot. I soak them I'm the morning to get out some of the pee and have no issues getting them clean in my HE machine.

  • P isn't a heavy wetter either, and we use a workhorse with either a charcoal bamboo insert or a hemp joeybunz. Both work wonderfully for us and have never leaked. Do you have a workhorse to try? The difference between the fitted being wrapped vs tri-folded might make all the difference. Have you tried fastening the prefold before you invest in a fitted?

I might be an sbish convert now, thanks to @violajack‌ . My 25lb 2 yr old is a very heavy wetter and we tried an sbish snapless last night under a Thirsties Duo Wrap. No leaks! I can't tell you how excited I was!

    Try an sbish!

  • Ds is still really little but we just got 2 sbish snap less. He is sleeping longer stretches and was leaking. They are awesome. Super soft. And they get clean easily. We also have a fl he.

We also tried a gmd workhorse with a hemp doubler. That worked well too.

I use a Workhorse with a regular cotton doubler, and have never had a leak. I use a Blueberry Coverall over it. She sleeps for 12 hours, no problems!

  • Thanks for all the suggestions.  It's great to hear others with HE FLs that are successful in getting fitteds clean.  I think I have some experimenting to do.  With different fitteds and materials (hemp and bamboo).  Sbish is probably where I will start.  I was hoping for something $16-$18 but I also want something that will work.  Besides I have another DD right behind her so I will get use out of whatever I buy. @joyfultrex I have tried folding the prefold around her and snappi'ing it and it is much less effective- even during the day.  DD#2 needs more of the absorption right in the middle.  I have considered a workhorse.  The only size we have is smalls so I can't try one out though.

You're thinking s'bish for DD#2 or #3? I have 3 medium s'bish OBF (14-22lbs) that I never use and would destash for cheap.

DD#2 is the one who is leaking.  19 mos.  She is just over 22 lbs.
  • Has anyone used a Kissaluvs organic cotton/hemp fitted?

I have Kissa's size 0 for NB stage. I really like them, but obviously can't comment on them for an older babe. I will say I like the workhorses just as much though, and they are cheaper. I'm only buying bigger workhorses, not more kissa's.

I have one. I definitely think a doubler would be required for ON.

It works well, but I still prefer my BBs, so it only gets used when I'm stripping, so when my other diapers are not available.

  • I am new to this and just in the process of looking and thread hopping to learn but I see a lot of people talking about the workhorse. I looked it up and it says the "Newborn and small have 6 layers in the flap and medium and up have 8 layer flaps" I don't see a picture of the inside of the diaper so what are the "flaps" they are talking about? Does anyone have a pic of the inside of this diaper?

The "flap" everyone is referring to is the middle section is sewn only in the back.  That way water can get all around it in the wash.  And helps it dry faster.  I found this pic online (it's not mine).

Oh goodness I love these even more now!
  • Don't use Twinkie Tush because I want to buy all the diapers!! ;) :P
  • I have a 4 mo old, but I really like the workhorses with a hemp doubler for nighttime, I fold a hemp babies and stick it under the flap. I also have a couple sbish snapless that are working well. But for the price point, it's hard to beat the workhorses IMO. They clean really well too.
