Pregnant after a Loss

AW: Update on me and Lovenox question

I had my 3rd beta drawn today (still waiting for the number) and I had an early u/s. I'm only 4w2d, so I knew that we wouldn't be able to see anything baby-wise, but my lining was 1.45 cm, which my RE was happy about (it was really thin with my EP, which was how we discovered it was ectopic, so FX this is a good sign for a uterine pregnancy). He said that my first beta was a little lower than he would have liked (18 at 11dpo), so he scared me with that. But was happy that it doubled well (to 102 in 3 days...28 hour doubling time).

I start Lovenox tonight and am wondering if anyone has any tips. I'm terrified of needles...I know that I need to just suck it up, but any tips on doing the injection to make it at least a little easier? Please tell me they're a piece of cake! Also, does your doctor have you on both aspirin and Lovenox? I forgot to ask my RE, but will talk to the nurse when they call with my beta results, but I'm just wondering what the protocol usually is. Thanks!

  • @starmile - Thanks for linking that thread, lots of good tips! Also, a random question since I'm curious and you're pretty far along...how do you do the injects once you have a bump? I'm having a hard time figuring out the logistics of that!

  • My doc had me stop taking baby aspirin once I started Lovenox, which was just last week when I found I was pregnant.  It is totally intimidating, but I'm already starting to feel a little better about giving myself the injections.  What's helping me is to pinch the skin around my waist and to angle the needle in until it's all the way in.  Inject the medicine SLOWLY because if you do it too fast - not only does it burn, but it puffs up your skin which can look really freaky!  It will burn once you're done, but just rub the area a little and it goes away.  I have a nice little line of injection dots along my waistline that I'm not too thrilled about, but if it means a healthy baby, then I can deal with that!  Good luck to you :)

I am on both low dose aspirin and lovenox. I will be on aspirin until I'm 30 weeks I believe.

I have lots of padding so haven't had issue finding a place to pinch for the injections. I am starting to do more towards my love handles, and less around my belly button. I haven't been told to do otherwise. I find I bruise more and it burns more when I inject me thighs. I do ice before/after, and inject slowly. Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies. I know it's ridiculous, but I just imagine myself stabbing my ute and popping it like a balloon. So, glad to know it works out okay with a bump! :)

  • Well, DH did my injection last night and it hurt soooo bad. I cried...I think partly from the shot and partly from the overwhelming PgAL emotions of the whole situation. Hopefully they get easier!

  • These are never fun, but it does get better!  Good for you for doing it.  I had DH standing right beside me pinching when I did my first one.  It's only fair they get involved! :)
