Shopping for next year.

Thanks to 10 years working in retail, I know now is the time to find summer clothes on sale as stores are already putting out their fall lines. I've scored some pretty good deals on stuff for next summer at Carter's, Gymboree, and Children's Place. But now I'm a woman on a mission! Where have other mom's found great deals to stock up for upcoming seasons?

Re: Shopping for next year.

  • I always try to be a year ahead.

I usually look on used fb groups for stuff. I have ds a snow suit already. Now I'm looking for a bike helmet and life jacket. Saves me serious cash.

  • Maybe this is a silly question, but how do you know what size to shop for? They don't necessarily seems to follow the time based sizing (3m, 6m). DD is a bit of a chunk. I'd love to take advantage of sales, though.

  • I never had any luck with doing this with older daughter! Good luck to thise that can. :)
  • @Nikkipal82 I realize it's a guessing game but I've been getting everything in 12-18 months. (18 mos in Carter's). She's been right on track with sizing so far. Worst case scenario, my MIL does a lot of flea markets and garage sales so I could always re-sell them and get close to what I paid since I'm only buying things on sale. I'll keep all tags attached until I'm ready to use them. I could also find mom swaps in my area if for some reason they don't fit her. At least sizing after 12 months are more broad and seem like they'll fit for a longer period of time.

  • And if you keep the receipts you can return them at Carter's and Kohl's as their return policy doesn't have a time limit.

Yes I just learned Carter's has a two year return policy--- how awesome is that?!

I'm not buying anything though, I have no idea if my guy will stay such a chunk or start to lean out... And I'm not responsible enough to keep a receipt that long :)

I guess really. Worst comes to worst I resell it.

But I've learned what bRands fit him better. Carters is best. George brand is crap for him. He's long.

Eta. I'm sure at some point what I get him wilol fit him. Just hope the season matches.

MIL does this. I have an entire box of 18m summer clothes that DD1 has never worn. They were too small by the time the nice weather came around. Hopefully it will fit DD2 next summer.

  • I don't have much room to store things like this but I did get a July 4th-worthy dress off the clearance rack at Kohls the other day that I hope will fit her next year!
  • I expect DS2 to need 9-18 month clothes as our springs are warmer than most areas around the country. However I rather buy big as ds1 runs on the larger size and it's easier to layer a long sleeve shirt under a loose short sleeve shirt.

Anything I don't think either kid fits, I gift to my brother or DH's sister.

  • Any of you super shoppers have tips on brands that are good for a long skinny baby. DD is 25 inches already (at 8 weeks), but only 11 lbs. All her 0-3 mo pants look like capris! It's okay for now as it's pretty hot here but I clearly need to get her into some skinnier 3-6 mo pants soon. Any recommendations?

DS is long too. I like Carters the best on him. Children's Place (I don't know if its in the US) is alright and Walmart is awful. So Carters is my go to. I think Gerber is on the longer side too.
  • @Katzalia‌ I have the same problem with my DD, the waist in many things is huge on her but the length is short. Baby Mexx had some good tights when she was a newborn, Baby Gap bloomers are huge, as are Osh Kosh, Carter's waist are good but length is bad. I'm interested to see how her fall stuff fits, she's mostly been in dresses for the summer.
  • @florassecret‌ , I agree, Carters is the best of what I have now. I don't think we have Childrens Place in the US.

@letal316‌ , I've never heard of Baby Mexx, will have to check it out. I haven't tried out her fall stuff yet, but I suspect there are going to be some things she never gets to wear.
  • I refuse to stock up. I bought Beb a whole bunch of clothes she would have been in size age wise NONE of them fit at an appropriate time. None.

  • I'm not stocking up but I found a good sale at janie & jack if you still feel like paying out the ass for really cute clothes. Gymboree had a 12.99 and under sale not too long ago that was a score.

    It's a BOY
