Wedding Rings

This is a post and run, because I am literally going to post and try to get at least a 2-mile run in.

I woke up at 3am and realized I couldn't get my rings off. I panicked and finally got them off, but I'm too scared to put them back on. So, because I'm dumb, "Operation Shop For A New 'Fake' Set To Wear" is happening, because I don't want to go naked, especially for my maternity photos in a few weeks, and I don't want to cut my wedding rings off. Someone please tell me it gets better and I'll be able to wear my rings again afterward. I'm so scared I'll never see them again.

WHY could this not have happened at 32 weeks? Who cares if it happened after my maternity photos? :\

  • Your hands will go back to normal but in the meantime I would keep the rings off and someplace safe. My SIL just had to get hers cut off right before her c-section so I am checking mine everyday when I wake up (cause ya know my husband is really sweet and all and said he would have my fingers cut off before the rings).

A friend of mine got a set at Piercing Pagoda that she wears on trips and whatnot. Not sure how much they run but it might be worth checking out.

  • Mine have been off for about a week and a half now. The swelling will go down after pregnancy and if for some reason they are still tight you can always get them resized. It will take a couple of weeks after delivery to be able to get them back on though depending on how much fluid they pump into you during L&D. With DD I had my rings on for the whole pregnancy (winter baby) and took them off on our way to the hospital. They didn't fit for weeks after because I had some complications and tons of fluid was pushed.

    Happy fake ring shopping!!

  • Same for me as PP. My fingers swell when I am sleeping - I think I am warmer then. So just take mine off at night, and am totally fine to wear them all day. I never did this pre-pregnancy- and everything went back to normal after my first.

  • It took my awhile after giving birth for them to fit comfortably again, but they did fit. I just wore an old band that I have that is a little bigger and I didn't go out and buy anything new. You may still be able to put them on for your pictures and just take them off right away. My fingers are more swollen at certain parts of the day.

  • Mine have been off for a while. I got a $20 ring from Kohls. It just wasn't worth me stressing about getting it off anymore.

  • I took mine off about 2 weeks ago. I could probably still wear them but I don't want to get them stuck! I'm wearing a diff ring in place right now, and put my wedding rings on a chain so I can wear them. And don't worry, this is baby #5 and I've always been able to put my rings back on after baby was born :)
  • Mine is starting to get tight but not so bad that I can't get it off.  I do take it off at night though, I always have.  Apparently it hurts when I hit DH in the face with it in my sleep!

I didn't have too much swelling with my first so I wore my rings all the way through L&D.  My friend was able to put hers back on about 2 weeks PP.

  • I had to take my rings off a week and a half ago. I would wake up and my fingers hurt so bad. I'm bad about remembering to put them on later in the day, so I just put them aside and in a safe place. Also, we went up to DC a week ago and walked around outside all day. I had this great idea that I wanted my wedding ring on. Bad idea. I swelled so bad from that miserable high humidity and heat and all that walking, I panicked when they didn't want to come off. So for now I have no desire to wear them! I do miss my rings though!

  • Mine is starting to get a little tight. It started out pretty loose though. I do not sleep in my ring because of possible snagging and losing diamonds etc...(I have lots of little ones in the band) The couple of people I know, their rings had to be re-sized after baby. The jeweler around here won't even re-size until 3 months PP. I would feel naked without it like you. Hope you find something extra pretty!

Nope. Can't get them resized. They have diamonds that go all the way around, so no one will resize them, because it will loosen all the diamonds. That's why I'm so panicky, I think!

But I did find a set on Groupon that looks close to mine. I'm gonna get it and hope that a 6 is a good enough size jump. I think my wedding rings are 5s, but I'm not certain. I have a lot of rings that are 7s that are too big (I lost 50 pounds). I think that's why I'm so scared I won't lose this weight and never be able to wear this ring again--I've been overweight before and I have all those rings to prove that I do gain weight in my hands. :\

My boss said he had to take HIS ring off yesterday. It was hot yesterday, so I'm wondering if that made things more complicated. And yes, they do swell at night, but I can always get them off by morning. But they were so tight last night I panicked. I meant to try to stick them back on after my shower, but I forgot, so I don't know the status.

  • I bought an extra cheap band on sale at Macy's about a month ago once the weather started getting really hot and I noticed my rings were getting really hard to take off. I mostly wear the fake band now, but I've noticed since then that I can still wear my regular set sometimes, like when the weather cools down a bit, when I know I'll be in good air conditioning all day, and when I'm really hydrated. I wore my regular bands all last weekend in fact. It's not necessarily all or nothing once you switch to the fake band! There's a chance you might be able to wear the rings in the photo if conditions cooperate.

  • Swarovski has some great fake wedding rings - I've been contemplating if I want to get one or not...
  • Well, I'm sorry we are all going through this, but I'm glad I'm not alone!

  • I had to wear a fake one from about 22 weeks on with DS1. I'm still able to wear mine at this point, but we did buy rings from here for this time : https://www.saferingz.com/

They're flexible rubber and come in colors too. Plus they're under $10 shipped. Last time I just got one from ebay.

  • Mine still fit fine. I take them off every night anyway. But my hands only swell when its hot out or if I've been exerting myself physically, which I haven't done too much of lately. ;)

  • Ugh!  I hope that it happened to be a random thing and you are able to wear yours a little longer.  I know that there are some good tricks out there for when they get stuck- I can't remember any off hand, but I'm sure you can google it and find some suggestions.  I only wear mine during the day and tend to take them off when I cook dinner.  I managed to wear mine until 36ish weeks with my first and then they were just snug enough that I didn't want to risk them getting stuck.  It took me a few weeks PP before I could wear them again b/c I was more swollen after giving birth than I was before.

  • I have had mine off for a couple of weeks. I did not want to run into the swelling stuff. DH still wears his. I will try and make it work for photos. (We were at a friends wedding in June and made it work. When I went to bed off they came and then back on in the morning). By then I kept noticing by the end of the night they were getting tighter. So it is in a safe place. Not even DH knows. :)) He could find them pretty quickly.

  • I took mine off way back in April. My fingers tend to swell really bad to begin with so I just took them off so I didn't have to deal with it. I meant to get a fake one but never got around to it... Oh well.
  • My wedding ring is getting tighter but my engagement ring still fits fine. I think at some point I'm just going to go with one ring, which I think will probably fit until the end. Even though they are both the same size somehow one is tighter than the other.

  • Mine have been off for a week now, but my fingers swell when I am not pregnant and it is hot.  I have an infinity tattoo on my ring finger, so there is something there.  I am hoping if ice my fingers before my maternity shoot i will be able to slip them on and off without difficulty.

  • My wedding ring was always juuuuust a little big and I needed my tighter engagement ring to hold it securely. I had to stop wearing the diamond though around 24 weeks. I knew this would happen which is why I never got my band re-sized.
  • I worked in a jewelry store and repair shop for 4 years, and we had many pregnant customers with this same problem. My best advice would be to leave them off for now, after delivery it really depends on the person, but most times the swelling went down within two to four months or so. If it hasn't gone down by then I would recommend going to your local jeweler and having them sized up. I always say wait at least that long before having them sized because you don't want to have to have them sized again smaller if your finger does end up shrinking again. Hope this helps!:)

My wedding band is smaller than my engagement ring, so it's been off for a while.  The engagement ring seems to be doing well so far.

I don't remember how far along I was last time when the rings totally came off, but I bought a silver Claddagh ring to wear instead.  I liked the idea of having something that still had some significance over just a cheapie flashy set.

  • I had to take mine off at least a month ago during our first really bad heat wave. I bought a fairly inexpensive plain silver ring to wear instead. I had to go up two sizes. I think it's partly from the heat and partly from weight gain. If I didn't have nickel allergies I'd have gotten something much cheaper and maybe a little more fancy looking.
