We started a new sleeping plan last Thursday. DS1 gets out of bed anywhere from once to several times per night. Rarely does he not get up until a sane hour. Thursday night was terrible -- he screamed for most of 2.5 hours. Friday night was better -- he screamed for 1.2 hours. Saturday was better -- he screamed for 20 minutes. Since then we've had 2 sleep through the nights (or at least he didn't come get us/wake us up) and 1 night of coming out twice, quietly. I don't expect perfection, but getting us up more than once per night EVERY NIGHT was killing me. DH And I are taking turns sleeping on the couch so the other can be in the bedroom with door closed, undisturbed. I miss my bed.
DS1 has also drank a few ounces of water a couple times in the last week. I think it's been more than 1 year since he stopped drinking water (he only drinks milk).
So I went grocery shopping yesterday and bought some cashews. Dd read the label then looked up at me and said cashews? I explained they were something to eat and opened the container. She took one and ate it!! It usually takes tons of exposure and coaxing so for her to try something she's never been exposed to was huge.
DS got invited to a birthday sleepover this weekend. He actually agreed! See, this is a double brag. He has been invited to sleepovers before (seldomly...as in this is a second invite in 2014 so far), but has never wanted to go. Anxiety, unfamiliar people and places etc. This time he is finally excited to go! I'm thrilled!
DS has been singing happy birthday all week...to whom I don't know but he's singing!!!
The other night I was bathing DS2, and caught DS1 reading. He was actually using words to make up stories!! Blown away, started crying!
And finally, DS graduated from speech yesterday as he's starting preK in the fall. I never dreamed how much progress he'd make in 9 months! He has plenty of work to do to catch up with his peers but man I am so proud!!
This type of spontaneous politeness is new. And, it is just so gosh darn cute when she uses her manners. Even if her 'excuse me' does sound like 'kill me.'
DS1 stayed in his room all night AGAIN! This is even more surprising because I think I heard him moving around upstairs at 5:30 AM (he came down at 6:15 AM). It is amazing if he was awake but decided not to bother us. I wish he'd get more sleep, but still, very impressive. Especially since he has no idea what time it is (we tried a sleep/wake time clock, but he complained about the dim light on the night bunny). Maybe he is learning to control the impulse to come out immediately, and if it's really middle of the night he falls back asleep, but if it's closer to wake-up time then after a little while he comes out. Not sure.

Hope the trend continues and you all get more rest. Yay for your DS!

In the past couple of months DD1's handwriting and drawing (neatness) have taken a huge leap forward. It's amazing. The OT commented on it at her re-evaluation. I think it's the summer break. Even though the break from routine causes some of her anxious behaviors to crop up more (hair chewing is back) I feel like the downtime really helps her catch up in some areas. Last summer I saw a huge leap in independence and adaptive skills. This summer she's rocking the fine motor stuff
Been a bit of a rough week behaviorally with DS...but I'm pretty sure I heard him say "Diesel" (of Thomas fame) the other day as he pointed(!) at a pic of Diesel.
And he's started experimenting with the "f" sound, including saying "fff" when he handed me a snack he wanted (I usually have to tell him to ask for food, usually via sign).

Thanks! He did it again! A little early (up at 5:55 AM) but still good! Tomorrow is a weekend.... hope it will be a little later (can I have 6:30 AM or later please?)
I was holding off potty training Reese. Originally I was going to start in January (or around then at 2 and a half) but then with her diagnosis, and many hospital stays and medicine she was on--I just didn't even push the issue. Especially since she seemed to have no interest in it. Well this summer we had about a two and a half week break from chemo, so I took advantage of it. I started it on Tuesday (cold turkey). She packed up her diapers for my niece on Monday. And amazingly she is completely trained except for nap and bed by today. I know once August 6th starts there will be set backs, and maybe some hospital visits in the future--so I wanted to get it done now.
