There is a lot of talk but almost no hard data on this kind of thing. Until genetic engineering comes further along, you're at the mercy of the winning sperm.

OP, if you've read Taking Charge of your Fertility, there's actually a section related trying for a girl vs. boy (similar to what @allisong1187 was saying). But all disclaimers mentioned above still apply.
@bibliothecary - seriously! That gif just summed up every thought I had and now no one will ever know... Unless I post it when I get to work in the morning...
I think the Ericson method involved lemons and a hair dryer to warm up your vag, and facing a certain direction...or maybe it was fish and icing your guy's package, and facing a different direction? I can't remember which was for which sex.
I just watched that ep and Marshall wanted a boy, so it was fish and an icy ball dip with facing one direction, Lily wanted a girl so it was hot vag and lemons with facing the opposite direction. I really hope OP tries this and reports back to us!

@swimmergurl1105 - what was I saying???

There is an ancient method to ensure the conception of a girl. Each step must be followed exactly. Even numbers are essential to this process as two X chromosomes are present in females. First, find 6 lychee berries. Pulse them 2 times in the blender. Add 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of honey. Pulse 2 more times. Then add 2 mint leaves. Pulse 4 times. Pour into a glass and drink. Do this 2 times a day for the 2 weeks leading up to your fertile time.
During your fertile time, make a paste of 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 mint leaves, 2 tsp water and 2 tsp almond extract. Strip naked and rub this on your body. Standing under the moonlight - remember that the moon is an important symbol in fertility - raise your arms to the sky and turn counterclockwise 6 times. Fall to your knees and hit the earth 4 times with your palms. Stand again and turn 6 times clockwise.
I wanted a girl and had a boy. From the moment I saw him, I wouldn't have changed a thing and I still feel that way. You will love your baby regardless. You will wonder how you lived your life without them and you won't give a shit about what genitals they have.

Ah yes, ancient blender recipes. They've been used for thousands of years, that's how you know they work!
Precisely! It actually works best with an ancient blender ... one from the 50s is best. If you don't have a blender you could always just use a mortar and pestle
Ugh, I have a rant. I understand possibly wanting one sex over the other. But as somebody that works in a special needs preschool, boy or girl doesn't matter, as long as it's a healthy baby. And to make it known explicitly is just upsetting to me.
OK, so I love every response on here, don't be mad guys, but I'm going to indulge OP for just a minute.
OP- there is a rumor (backed by no scientific evidence that I can find) that female sperm lives longer than male sperm. Some women try to time sex to 3-4 days before ovulation, then none at all after, so that only the longer living sperm survive to fertilize the egg.
You would have to know your cycles very intimately (through temping, read the newbie blog and fertilityfriend.com to learn how to do that) to try this, and in all liklihood the only thing you would be doing is not letting yourself get pregnant at all. But it's a theory, and it's out there, and people do it. GL
My mom is convinced this is how she had a boy first and a girl second. Exactly as she had planned it.
But seriously, you can't do anything to increase your chances of having a girl. Most of the women on this board would probably agree that a baby of either sex is better than no baby.

It's all a crap shoot IMHO. The only way to be sure is to adopt.

No doubt. If I don't get knocked up by late august, I lose my chance to have a boy for three months. My ovaries better start cooperating.
