Anyone else worried about sleeping at day care?

My LO is 9.5 weeks. I've been trying to not create bad habits and getting him to sleep in his crib for naps. But I'm successful 50-75% of the time. He goes to day care in 2.5 weeks and I'm worried about him going to sleep. Plus, I feel bad for our DCP because it's going to be a fight to get him down. For those who have gone back to work, how has the transition gone??

DS just went to daycare today. For us he only falls asleep when swaddled and rocked which they don't have time for always (and tthey're not supposed to swaddle). I called earlier and he had actually slept a little bit. Daycare is a whole different place and they learn how to act there. It's amazing. DD was the same as DS as far as needing to be rocked to sleep at home, but at daycare she still slept somehow.

  • I was worried but he does sleep, not as much as I would hope, but he does. Nighttime sleeping hasn't changed since he went to daycare, though some evenings with him have been a little more fussy than others and I attribute it to him not sleeping well during the day.

We still swaddle him for bedtime and some naps over the weekends.

  • DC is very stimulating for them and they often wear themselves out there and actually nap. I was amazed the first time DS slept there...

I was worried too for the same reasons and she took a two hour nap today on her first day :) wtf baby? Where were those this summer with mom? They said she fell asleep easily (which never happens for me:))

She had other issues though...I just posted about her bottle refusal:(

  • Most babies and toddlers sleep better at day care than at home. It's like magic :)
  • I am also a little worried about this since DS naps on me usually. Sometimes he will nap in the car or swing but the crib  does not go well. A friend told me DC actually helped her kids nap better at home so hoping it will go smoothly.
  • DS1 was a horrible daycare napper...I swaddled him and had him in a dark room with white noise for naps and they don't do that at daycare so he had a really hard time. He would end up napping every day once I picked him up for a while.

With DS2 I have made it a point to get him to nap just about anywhere with no swaddle and no white noise, just background noise...in the hopes that he will do better than his brother did at dc.

  • So happy this thread exists. This has been my biggest concern so far. He typically needs swaddling or his swing to sleep well during naps. I've been getting him to sleep without swaddling as much as possible, but he still has the Moro reflex and wakes himself up... So random! I have a week and some change left to get him somewhat accustomed to swaddle-free and swing-free napping. Thanks to all you STM who shared your past experiences.

  • I'm worried about this too!! She starts dc tomorrow and I'm going to be a wreck!!
  • We start daycare in about a week and I feel like I need to start having him nap like they will in daycare, but... He has been napping on me (finally got him to sleep in crib at night for a whole week) and I love it. I feel like I only have this time for so long and I have been taking advantage of the cuddling. He is getting big fast and once they get him napping in the crib I will not want to mess that up. That said only one nap in the crib so far. Maybe another today.
