###IUI Check-In: July 22###

I'm on vacation with no computer access (only my phone), so this is an informal update!

This is the place to update us on your IUI or break.

***Please note, if I don't see an update in 3 weeks, I will remove you from the list (you will see **4** before your name the week before I remove you)***

QOTW: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close did you get?

If you would like to be added please answer the following:

1. Where are you at in the IUI process? (2WW, meds, break, etc.)

2. Which IUI are you on?

3. Test/Beta day?
**siggy warning**  **everyone welcome**

Re: ###IUI Check-In: July 22###

  • I'm at 11 dpiui, and the only reason I haven't tested is because I'm on vacation and I didn't bring pregnancy tests. I've never waited this long to test before.

I've been feeling pretty bad and having pretty much every pregnancy symptom in the book, but I'm worried it's just progesterone symptoms. I'm not expecting anything.

QOTW: I wanted to be a few different things when I was a kid. For a while it was a ninja, and I have to report that I was not successful. I did want to be a teacher for a long time though, and that's what I am.

  • I had iui #2 yesterday. I was feeling really good about this cycle, and I had 4 nice size follies at my u/s appointment. When the Dr came in yesterday, he informed me that my husbands sample was only 3 million leaving only 900,000 post wash. He said we normally wont do an iui under 1 million, but since you are all ready we are going to do it anyway. So I am pretty devastated. We have no idea what caused his numbers to fall.

QOTW: I wanted to be a stay at home mom when I was growing up. I am a marketing director, and the good news is I love my job.

  • I'm 12dpiui, and my beta is on Friday.  I have been able to resist the urge to test somehow, even though I have a supply of HPTs.  I am not having the same symptoms as last cycle, no pressure on my bladder, no constipation.  My boobs are ginormous right now, but not sore.  My back is absolutely killing me, no matter what I do, and I woke up 3 times to go pee last night.  I am having extremely vivid dreams, but that's nothing new, I have that  each cycle towards the end.  I have been hungry all the time, which is frustrating.

I have little hope this cycle, which I think is helping me make it to beta or bust.

Rant: My mom has started referring to my sister's dog as her grandpuppy, and referring to herself as its grandma....and it just pisses me off.  I know its likely because she doesn't think she'll ever have actual grandchildren, and I haven't told her about our treatments, but still.  It bothers me.

QOTW: I first wanted to be a writer, but then I decided I wanted to be a psychiatrist.  Which I was pursuing, but then realized I didn't want to be doing research on lab rats and writing papers for 10 years.  I then decided I wanted to be a nurse, and I achieved that. :)

I'm on cd10, just got done with my mid cycle ultrasound. I have an 18 & 14mm on the left, and a 15 and 11 on the right. Which sounds great, but my lining was only a 4.3 I start estrace tonight and go back in tomorrow in hopes that my lining somehow thickens enough to trigger tomorrow night. This sucks so bad, I finally get my ovaries to cooperate and mature on the left side and my lining is thin. Nothing in this process is easy. FX my lining somehow improves to 6+ by tomorrow so we actually have a chance of implantation.

QOTW: Like @Lindy&Billy I wanted to be an Olympic softball player. I played D2 in college, but never got close to actually trying out for the Olympic team.

  • I am on cd7, just finished my Clomid and am having the worst goddamn hot flashes ever, ever.  I slept with TWO fans blowing at me last night because I couldn't sleep at all the night before.  Mid-cycle us this weekend, assuming IUI #2 early next week.

QOTW: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? How close did you get?
I wanted to be so many things.  The first female president (3rd grade), a dolphin trainer, a lawyer, a teacher.  When I first started college I was majoring in secondary education but one semester in they had me do a semester of in class observation with a high school teacher and she was so negative about her job that I changed my major the next semester.  Now I am a project manager and pretty happy with it.

@BlueJoan my husband is like yours in that he still thinks this will happen for us naturally. This morning when I was upset after our ultrasound, he got mad at me because "How can you not be happy, we are making progress"

Thank you for the side effects heads up, @BlueJoan. I'm planning to read more tonight too.
I've had my progestrone check before (with my first medicated cycle), and it was normal, but after my CP I asked for it just so I can tell myself that I tried, and my RE was fine with it (we both agree that it probably wouldn't have prevented the cp, but that the reassurance it will give me is a good enough reason).

Thank you, @BlueJoan. I didn't have a trigger this time, but last time I did and it was out by about 7dpo. I got my bfp on 10dpo, so I'm planning to test 10dpo this time too. Otherwise my beta is the day before we leave for a week! I'd like to get at least 2 betas done, so I can relax on the beach either way.

  • Hey ladies, I'm at work and using my phone so this will be a post and run.

I had B2B IUIs on Thursday and Friday last week, but according to my temps I haven't ovulated yet. :( Everything looked great last week, and I was so hopeful and excited and now knowing that I probably haven't ovulated I feel like the wind has been sucked out of my sails. I finally got a straight answer from my nurse coordinator this morning that Clomid could affect my temps, and that is why they rely on bloodwork and ultrasounds. But, I don't go in for bloodwork until Thursday morning. She also acknowledged that my follicles could turn into cysts if I don't ovulate. Great.

DH is being optimistic. He took his temp with my thermometer and said it read at 95.57, and then immediately took it again and it read 97.45. Wtf?! So, there is a small part of me that is hoping my thermometer is broken and I actually did ovulate over the weekend. Also, DH totally stuck my Hooha thermometer in his mouth to take his temp. High fives all around.

Hope everyone else is having better luck than me. FX for this in 2WW and hugs to those who need them.

QOTW: When I was little, I wanted to be the first female president of the United States. Spoiler alert: that didn't happen! Haha, not the life I want anymore. I'm a manager at a nonprofit and def like the cause-based work I do. Gives meaning to the day-to-day!

    No problemo! And thank you!
I totes missed answering QOTW. When I was really little I remember answering something like "I want to be me when I grow up." Eventually I decided I wanted to be a mermaid (I grew up fairly close to Weeki Wachi, so it's reasonable). Then I wanted to do special effects makeup. As an adult I was interested in going into neuroscience, but realized that I can't really focus on any one narrow area too long. :/ I'm still torn about what I should do- I'm considering either teaching or social work. I want to be able to help people, and I enjoy teaching- I'm currently a trainer at a research institution. I mostly enjoy this, because I get a pretty good mix of being around people and getting to be alone. If I can start to do more clinical stuff (and get a raise) I think I'd be happy doing this relatively long-term. But I'd also be really happy to get back at a bench top. I really, really loved being a research tech.

  • IUI #3 was a bust. I got the dreaded call that I should do IVF, but I said one more IUI, then IVF. They acquiesced, so I'm starting my Follistim tomorrow night...a higher dose to start this time. I had my baseline today and I had two leftover follies on the right which the nurse said were empty fluid sacs. Whatevs! Praying for my Hail Mary IUI and getting kinda excited about IVF! I wanted to be a large animal vet, an architect, and a journalist. Ended up a low level insurance company lawyer. Such is life! ;)

    Fourth IUI Feb 2015, Femara + Follistim + Trigger = C/P :(

  • @rainbowbridge14 happy to provide some comedic relief. :)

I pushed my nurse coordinator for more answers this afternoon after she finally acknowledged that my follies could turn into cysts. I emailed her:
I'm still concerned that I have not ovulated. I really hope I'm wrong about this, but what is the plan should the blood test confirm my suspicions? How late in a cycle can an HCG be given? Would we try another IUI, or TI? Or is there a point in which follicles become too large to ovulate safely?

    She replied:

Dr. X did the ultrasound before doing the insemination and based on the results of the ultrasound, Dr. X did the inseminations.

HCG will not be given to you at this time of your cycle. If this cycle is unsuccessful, IUI or TI will be for next cycle.

So, there it is. I'm just super confused. What if I don't ovulate, then how will this cycle end? Why didn't they have me come in earlier for a blood test when HCG could still be given (I notified them on CD18 - how is that too late?!) I really hope there is just something wrong with my thermometer, but I can't help but feel like I am the only person who is advocating for ME right now. This is my body, this is my future - how can they be so careless? :(

  • @ashtownyeah It sounds like your RE's nurse is just giving you the basic line they give everyone. I have run into that before. I actually found that my first 1-2 cycles before the nurses really knew meI was treated more like someone who would jut get pregnant quick and not be back, but now that I have been there since February they all know me and they put more effort into communicating and finding ways to meet my needs. Probably not helpful, but my guess is they figure if you didn't ovulate this cycle is a bust anyway and they will start fresh next cycle.

I def feel like she's just feeding me lines. Now I just want this cycle to be over so I can move on with a clean slate. ::sigh::

Thanks for reading my rant! XX

  • Hello. Id like to be added

I am on my IUI #1 and my BETA is tomorrow. I'm beyond anxious and scared. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. The 2ww has been torture. Took a HPT yesterday and it was BFN but I hope it was just that my HCG was just not high enough to be detected. Praying that bloodwork comes out with a positive result.

QOTW: I wanted to be a ballarina. Dreamt of being on stage twirling in a tutu but instead I work in customer service.

Looking forward to your replies. Have a good day.
  • Ooh, the world of IUI sounds so exciting and active. Still on a break for BCPs and surgery in a couple weeks. Although summer break was going to be the chance to do all our IUIs, I am just enjoying the blessing of focusing on other things. I really trust that God is in control in our lives and has a plan for us. :)

QOTW: Marine biologist, kindergarten teacher, actress, writer, working at the UN or some NGO. I actually got the degree in international relations but couldn't go on because I was so emotionally upset by everything going on in the world and how helpless it made me feel; and also acted any chance I got in school and community theater.

But I moved into ESL for my EdM and it's perfect because I can work anywhere in the world, and because it's my job to help students learn all their subjects, so it never gets boring (never thought I'd be teaching high school bio, chem, European history, health...so fun)!

@rainbowbridge14 I'm sorry that you have to take a break, but it is probably for the best! Hoping that everything works out well for you!

@Emma61210 The 2WW is horrible, just hang in there! BTW, I noticed from your picture that you are an Auburn fan. Are you from Alabama?

AFM: IUI #2 was a complete failure. I am currently on CD6 and just started my Letrozole last night thanks to the bonehead nurse for forgetting to call my prescription in. Anywho...we are gearing up for IUI#3 and if it's a bust then we come up with a different plan and take a healthy break.

I knew from so young that I wanted to be a teacher, my mom is a teacher and I would always go to her classroom and watch. I am beginning my 8th year in August!

If you would like to be added please answer the following:

    1. Where are you at in the IUI process? (2WW, meds, break, etc.) IUI# 1 tomorrow! AHHH

    2. Which IUI are you on? #1

    3. Test/Beta day? No clue, I assume 14 days after tomorrow? DH says we will NOT test before a beta, and that he is going to hide all the prey tests in our house. UGH, we will see if I can wait that long.

  • I am going to go crazy before my beta tomorrow. I keep wondering if the symptoms I am having are a BFP or PMS. ugh! I am having major lower back pain, its been maybe two days. Some of the readings I am finding say it can be an early sign, some say it happens later on. I want so badly to have a good BETA tomorrow that I don't know what to think anymore. The closer it is to finding out the more I worry. Do I take a HPT before the beta? do I just go for blood work?

  • Thank you!!!
  • AF is officially here. Feeling sooooo heartbroken. Maybe I was naive for thinking it would work on IUI#1 but knowing that if was a bust breaks my heart.

  • @shura12‌ - So sorry. Big hugs!! I was heartbroken when IUI #1 was a bust too. Be good to yourself .... wine, ice cream, movies, whatever. Then you'll be ready to get your head in the game for the next round.

  • Hey everyone! I am on day 7 and just finished my clomid. Started folistem injections tonight for three days. I go in for u/s and bw on Friday. Hoping to have some good size follies ready for iui.
Anyone have issues with cyst from clomid? That's what's stopped me the last two rounds from getting iui.
Has anyone ever iui with a cyst?

    Baby dust to all!
  • Thanks @EastBayBride508‌ I'm guessing today when I got for my beta they will tell me what my next steps are. Not sure how soon this whole process starts again. Thanks for the support. It hard for others to understand.
  • I had my 3rd IUI on the 10th which happened to be my 30th birthday. My Beta is tomorrow and I'm so excited/nervous.
  • I'm currently at the beginning of my iui #4 cycle. We moved up to injects and femara this cycle. I just had my baseline yesterday and have another ultrasound next Wednesday.

I wanted to be a doctor but instead I tutor and work in administration.
  • @ashtownyeah‌ I'm so sorry for the stressful situation you're in! It does sound like they didn't handle this cycle very well. I would've thought they would do a trigger. I would think when you go in for your next appointment they will have some more idea if you O'd or not. I would definitely make a case about it though because it doesn't seem fair that you should pay for 2iuis if you didn't O and they didn't have you trigger!

I had my first RE appt in June, asked about Provera they said not necessary and schedule my HSG. I say okay and schedule. Then I go in the day of HSG and they say I can't do it without taking Provera first to have a period! I'm like wtf? I really don't think they think things through sometimes and I too feel like I have to go in ready to advocate for myself. I'm sorry you are having a tough time!!
