Re: Tuesday check in

  • 30 weeks tomorrow and I feel like the kicks are getting slightly weaker--must be getting a little more cramped in there. Hallelujah!
I speak a little Spanish and a little Italian from studying both in school--my skills aren't such that I'd be great at teaching though. When I was very young, my mom taught me to count to 20 in Spanish, French, and German. I think that helped me to formulate those foreign sounds whenever I do learn words and phrases in another language. Accents have never been a problem for me as a result. I'd love to at least be able to pass that down!

My grandmother died yesterday, so I'm feeling a little sad about that. But I know she was beyond ready to go, so I'm also glad she didn't have to put up with living any longer than she wanted.

Physically, I'm doing well. The Boy has been super active since dinner last night, and my husband got to feel a lot of the kick/punches.

I understand a fair amount of Spanish and can get by when I travel to Spanish-speaking countries. I studied French for three years in high school and Italian for one year, so sometimes I get some of the vocabulary confused. I really want my son to be fluent in Spanish.

I'm alright today. LO is pretty active. Poking behind my bellybutton all morning. :) Had a dream that we were having twin Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. :| I'll rant that its going to be 87 and possibly storm, which means humidity. I hate humidity. :-L

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?

I can count to 14 in Spanish, and that's about the extent of my foreign languages. I wasn't required to take it in school so I never did.

ETA: @MrsL2B‌ sorry about your grandma. Hugs.

  • Woke up with really bad pain in my left hip. Can barely get up n downstairs. LO has been quite active the last few days so maybe they have hit a nerve??

I can get by in Spanish. I was pretty fluent after high school but it faded quickly. I get some practice with my students though. They get a kick out of my attempts and pronunciation. The DC we are sending LO to teaches Spanish and ASL in addition to English.

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?  Well, my back feels great today but apparently I can't have a fully good day because the vertigo kicked in...I may need to leave work but I had to take a sick day last week so I just can't see it happening today...plus I don't want to drive just yet.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?  I don't know anything in another language other than like counting to 10 or some random phrases in Spanish...no way I would be able to survive in another country.  I'm not opposed to my kids learning a second language but I'm not going to push it either.  I would love for them to learn something like Italian or French - but only because they sound so pretty!

  • ugh no sleep last night, kept waking up with charlie horses in my calf and then the stress of not getting sleep made me unable to fall back asleep! Its a cruel cruel world.

Also Im out of town for a week of navy training and want to go home really bad.

    End of rant.

DH speaks fluent spanish, not sure if he will be proactive and teach kiddo.

Just typical 3rd trimester challenges. The heart burn is raging today. I'd like to put my foot in my mouth by telling everyone this baby is probably going to be bald.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?
I seriously wish I did. i tried to pick up some Spanish in Puerto Rico but they don't speak a typical Spanish. I do alright with signs and things like that. I wanted to be bi-lingual before I had kids but you know, life! My Chinese SIL speaks 9 languages and more than half are Chinese dialects. I wish we taught more languages here. Seriously missing out!

I'm doing ok today.  Last night I had my first "freak out".  I have not had a lot of sex with DH since I got pregnant.  Last night I decided I would be a good wife.  I won't be doing that again.  I started bleeding.  A LOT.  Thankfully I have seen a lot of you mention that it has happened so I didn't panic.  I called my OB and she reassured me that it was normal.  But poor DH was a little traumatized.  And I will not be doing anything to cause that to happen again!

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual? I only speak english.  I am all for Nemo learning another language if it's available to her, but I am not going to push it.

@MrsL2B I'm so sorry for your loss

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?

Well, I have been having this weird lower abdominal pain. It hurts in my hips as well, so I think it must just be growth or ligaments pain. It is unpleasant and makes rolling over in bed pretty impossible.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?

I do! Not very well, mind you, though. I speak Hebrew, a teensy bit of French and even less Italian. My fiance speaks French fluently. I'm hoping the baby learns a bit of French and Hebrew

  • @MrsL2B‌ So sorry to hear about your Grandma! Big ((hugs))!

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?

I have been sleeping like crap! My hips are killing me, my back aches like a mo fo & baby boy has decided to take residency up in my rib cage! Baby girl is way down low & has been doing some tribal dances on my bladder! Ugh, having a short torso & baking twins is hard!

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?

I'm not fluent in any foreign language but I know enough to get by when traveling to Spanish speaking countries! I would love for my LOs be able to speak Spanish but we shall see!

  • How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?  Didn't sleep that well last night (woke up probably 6 or 7 times), but at least I was able to get back to sleep after waking up each time.   Also, DH's father finally responded to last week's e-mail (where DH told him off and declined all of his "offers" for assistance - which always come with strings) and acted all butt hurt.  Sorry, but we aren't going to put up with your constant questioning of our parenting decisions and your half ass treatment of people you consider family.  If it was still just DH and myself, we could deal with the treatment (and have at times) but we aren't putting Schroeder through that.  My parents will happily more than make up for DH's parents lack of involvement in her life (and be positive role models).

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?  I took Latin, Spanish, and Russian in HS and college.  By now, I only remember key phrases in Russian, such as "Where is the toilet" and "I like cats".  I also know a handful of ASL signs due to the speech apraxia I suffered as a toddler (and learned to communicate first through ASL while they taught me to verbally speak).  We chose our day care due to the fact that they teach baby sign language so they will be able to deal with Schroeder if she inherits this from me.

@MrsL2B -  I am sorry to hear about your grandmother.

  • @mrsl2b Sorry to hear about your grandmother.  :(

  • I slept much better last night. I woke up around 1:30am and thought I was going to be up for the night again. I wanted to cutabitch. But thankfully I fell back asleep somewhere around 2:30 and only woke up enough to make it to the bathroom twice after that.

French. I did a semester in France during college and was quite fluent by the end of the semester. I've lost most of it now. I would really love for LO to learn French and Cajun French. Cajun French is a dying language and it makes me sad. My grandfather grew up only speaking CF until he went to school, where it was beaten out of him. Literally. He taught me a poem when I was 7 or 8 that I have since forgotten. Something about bringing an apple home from school.

  • @MrsL2B‌ - I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother.  Whether they are ready to go or not, it's still hard.

I am tired today.  I'm sleeping pretty well these days and I'm not terribly uncomfortable, but it seems I get one day of energy and one day without, etc.  The days without stink.  I hate feeling like I need to take a nap at 10:30 a.m.!!

I took French all through middle school, high school and a full year in college plus one college year of Italian.  I didn't maintain any italian, but enough French to tell someone I'd like to buy a ticket, or ask where the bathroom is!  ;)  I am not set on teaching my kids a foreign language myself.  My two older ones have been taking spanish in school since kindergarten and my 12-year-old still seems to know NOTHING, which annoys me.  It seems to be such a waste of time!  Hopefully she'll learn more in HS and will possibly go abroad where she's forced to use it!

I'm just so unbelievably tired, I can't get comfortable at night no matter what I do, so by morning I'm so exahughsted that I end up sleeping all day, and can't get anything done. I honestly just want to cry, I probably should to release some tension. Ok, end rant.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?

I took some language diction classes in college (vocal music major) so I can speak some Italian, French, and German, but not fluently at all. I am really interested in becoming fluent in Italian and would love to teach LO! I do plan on learning and teaching LO baby sign language though.

    ETA: edited for spelling.

  • So sorry to hear about your grandma, @MrsL2B.  That can be tough.

I feel pretty good today, but I'm planning on taking it easy because I definitely overdid it yesterday by cleaning all day.  I'm glad I got some stuff on my pre-baby cleaning list done, though.  Also, it's going to be like 90 today but feel closer to 100 so I'm thinking staying in and reading sounds like a great plan.

I speak a moderate amount of French, and DH does pretty well with Spanish.  I would love DS to speak Spanish, hell I would love to speak Spanish.  We will make an effort to teach him, but I know unless we try and use it a bit around the house he will likely not pick up on much.

  • Doing good today. Working from home.  I am so tired though!  I was up at 2-2:30 again this morning and didn't fall back to sleep again until 4:30/5AM it was a long night.  On top of that I feel like I have the stomach flu or something.  I have had some bathroom issues and nausea. Not fun.

I am not bilingual.  Would love for our children to be fluent in English and Spanish.

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?  I'm in a funk today again and work is super annoying.  Physically I feel ok though.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual?  I took French for like 4 years but was never fluent and have pretty much forgotten all of it.  MH and I would like to learn ASL, so we might work on that with the little guys.

  • @MrsL2B - so sorry to hear about your grandma. Never easy to lose a loved family member.

MRSclarke08 - I run into the same problem with DH. I get weepy for no real reason often or little things bother me more than they should and I explain to him that its just pregnancy hormones and to ignore me but it works him up.

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?
Doing okay today. Been a week or so since I've properly checked in. Between work, chores, cat issues and just overall life, I've been finding less time to be on here lately, but hoping to have more time again in the coming days. I was able to get in a short run today - had to go real slow as its another hotter week and even early it was a bit humid (I too hate humidity) - but feel good that I got out and about. Otherwise, baby kicks seem to be getting a bit less intense - think its cause he/she is getting bigger and space is being reduced - though last night at about 3:30 right after I woke to use the bathroom, baby was doing a little drum beat of kicks along my lower abdomen on the left side - though while not strong, were constant for at least 5 straight minutes. Too bad though as DH has yet to time it right to feel the baby kick. At least he's seen the kicks - my stomach moves visibly in the evening.

Do you know more than one language? Are you planning on raising your child to be bi or trilingual? I have retained some Spanish from HS and College but not too much. I'd love to have the child grow up knowing more than one language, but most likely that wont' happen as I'd have to force exposure rather than it just being a natural thing.

    Lilypie - (urRB)
