The same thing happened to me, except it squirted out when I had finished mixing up my 3rd bottle. I don't know what I did wrong and it never happened again. I just didn't want you to feel like you are the only person to ever have done this.
Actually, something similar happened to me when I was trying to aspirate my first injection of Lupron and remove the air bubble. I was too forceful (since the dose is sooo small) and squirted out pretty much half the dose.
I was lucky that it was just lupron, and the vial was practucally new, but it happens to the best of us, don't beat yourself up about it. Hopefully your nurse will have an extra vial laying around. If not PM me...
I reconstitute lyo drugs for a living, and the best tips I can give you are:
give yourself plenty of time to prep your dose. When I did mine it took about 15 mins from setting everything up to being ready for injection
do things in the same order, every time. Meaning pull up the saline first, then recon each vial of one drug first, then recon each of the other drug next. Consistency creates habit.
when reconstituting, keep the plunger pressed all the way down (if using the Qcap)
when withdrawing solution from the vial, pull the full dose into the syringe, then pull in about 0.5cc of air. This will stop any of the drug from immediately squirting out of the syringe upon withdrawl from, or injection into, a vial. Leave that air in the syringe until you have attached your injecting needle. Only then should you carefully remove the air through the needle, until you see the bead of solution at the tip of the needle.
expect that there will be some holdup within each vial, but don't worry, you are still getting your full dose in the end
Don't let the procedure of it all scare you ladies. Take your time and you will be fine. Happy Injecting!!:P
