TTC After a Loss

Introduction - a little advice needed

**Ticket warning - living child**

Hi everyone.  I'm new here.  I had an ectopic pregnancy back in April that ended up in emergency surgery and the loss of one of my tubes.  My dr. gave us the ok to start trying again after 2 cycles.

After the second cycle (started June 24), DH and I tried, a lot, to get pregnant.  We basically tried every 2 days from July 3-13.  My next period was due July 24th and lo and behold -- it came early :(.  That's actually never happened.  It's been up to a week late, but never early.  And it's heavy.  I've soaked through a pad in about 2 hours and there are some clots.  Naturally, I'm concerned.  Is this worth calling the doctor?  Is this normal?

I'm relatively new to all this and am just a little confused and scared at this point.  I bought a BBT thermometer today and will start temping to try to learn more about my body and what its going through but again, this is all new to me!  Looking for some support and guidance I guess...

I'm so sorry for your loss. I think a lot of is are going to say that your first few cycles after a loss may be a little wonky, but my opinion is if you're concerned at all about the amount of bleeding then I would call. Better safe than sorry :) welcome to the board.

  • My norm for two or so days of my period is to soak through a pad every couple hours with huge clots.  My doctor has never been concerned when I've told him about this.  From what I've read here the recommendation to be concerned and see a doctor is soaking through a pad in an hour or less. I'd say monitor the situation and if you start bleeding more/faster, maybe get checked, but more than likely it'll ease up. Sorry for what you're going through.

  • I am sorry that you have to go through this.  I just finished cycle 2 post loss.  The first cycle was very heavy, but not 1 pad an hour. (if you have that, call the Dr) It was more like 3 pads a day vs 1 that I usually have. It was also very clotty.  Then for cycle 2, it was so light.  For everyone its different, but it sounds like your body is just adjusting.  If you are worried, you can always call the Dr.

    Everyone Welcome

  • Sorry for your loss. I would say if you are concerned to call your doctor, but I can tell you that since my loss in March my period has been very heavy for the first 2 days. I always wondered who could possibly need the "super plus" tampons - well, I do now and I can go through one in 90 minutes. It is possible your body is shedding a little bit of retained tissue or it could be just the sad reality of "wonky" post-loss periods like rslh10 said.

I'm sorry for your loss. My cycles were very predictable before my D&C - now they tend to be wonky. If you are concerned, call your doc. No harm in double checking, right? Welcome.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Welcome to the board. The previous posters have given you great advice. My cycles have been wonky post D&C too. I was worried at first, but my OB says it's just my body finding it's new normal. Definitely call if you're soaking thru a pad an hour. My first two days of AF are now very heavy and I too can go through a super plus tampon in a couple hours. Welcome again, and I hope you find the support you need here. It's a great group of women.

  • Thank you everyone.  I believe you are right and it's probably my body adjusting.  It's difficult as this was my first loss and it's the first time my cycle has been out of whack.

I appreciate the support and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions about charting as I begin this journey!

  • So sorry for your loss.  My periods prior to my first pregnancy/loss were easy peasy... well, no longer :(  Our bodies work in amazing, but also frustrating ways to regulate themselves.  Hope your next cycle is easier on you... or better yet, you don't have one ;)
  • I'm so sorry for your loss. As others have said, your first few cycles after MC tend to be not exactly normal, but I would definitely say to call your doctor if you're at all concerned. The least they can do is offer you reassurance.

  • Cycles often change after a loss. They can get crazy. Charting helps people feel more in control and understand what their body is doing. I'm very sorry for your loss. Give yourself time.
