Wondering if anyone has had any success with having labor induced through acupuncture? My OB approved it and I am going for my first session tomorrow at 39 weeks 2 days.
I have gone several times in the past 3 or so weeks and my cervix remains stubbornly at 1 cm, though I've become more effaced. (Not sure if the latter has anything to do with the acu.) Generally it can't hurt -- BUT some acupuncturists actively try to bring on contractions, rather than merely cervical changes, and this can result in painful but nonproductive prodromal labor if you're not already pretty primed to go, so make sure you know what your acupuncturist intends to do and why. (And make sure you're going to someone who specializes in pregnancy.)
