So at this point I figured I would be insanely stressed about labor pains, my body, decisions regarding birth, Ect but for some reason I've gotten myself stressed over the nursery. Silly I know! We are having our first..a little girl so I want her room to be pretty and elegant however I'm having a hard time with deciding on a dresser style/changing table to go with her crib. I have ordered the crib already (Chelsea Sleigh Crib- see attached) and it is a antique goldish color. I don't particularly love the dresser that goes with the set. I would really love a French provincial dresser that could be painted (see example image)Question being..what color dresser other than matching the goldish color could I go with on the dresser? Thanks so much!
Re: Nursery Help!!!
Have you picked any other pieces for the nursery? Personally I would take a photo of the crib colour and head to the local hardware store and start looking at paint samples. I would also look in to if the dresser you want is paintable versus something you have to stain.
If you've already got a color palette in mind for the room I would see what you can pull from that would work well with the dresser. Personally I love the look of an antique blue with gold but it really depends on the gold and personal taste. It will also depend on how much of a focal piece you want the dresser or crib to be. Staining in a natural wood can be super pretty too and there is the advantage of being able to use a waterproof finishto help protect the wood from wear and tear.
My H's grandfather passed away recently and we inherited a dresser from him that we are currently stripping down and will stain a cherry colour for our change table. I'm a big fan of the natural wood and the dresser itself is quite ornate with lots of really pretty scroll work on it that I think would just be diminished if we were to paint it instead.
Not sure if any of that was helpful but those are my 2 cents.
Unless that crib turns into a twin/full size bed, the dresser will be around a lot longer. I'd go with a darker wood stain for it, since it's probably going to get banged up.
